2005 Rolex Catalogue

I came across this 2005 Rolex catalogue at my in-laws, along with a UK price list (if anyone needs to be reminded what 18 years of inflation looks like!)
It’s a nice wee book to flick through anyhow and having only just become interested in the watch world, lots there I was unaware of, particularly the 116598 SACO Leopard, wowsers.

Cool! Can you post some more shots of the pieces you liked? Always fun to take a look back.

Sure, here are a few:
  • The 116263 Datejust Turn-O-Graph
  • The Explorers and Subs/Sea Dwellers reassuringly familiar (114270, 16570, 1406M 16600)
  • There’s a lot of diamond pavé (81338 Datejusts)
  • Daytonas with Arabic numerals (116509)
  • And that Leopard!

I recall in 2004: Submariner Date £2350 Submariner £1970 when I got mine, I'd imagine the 2005 prices are around 10% more.

It’s £2610 in the 2005 book, so yeah, a smidge over 10%

Do you recall how much the gas, bread and butter was priced 20 years ago? Like third of todays price ..

It's not like £2350 was a peanut back in 2004 .. And don't start with that mickey mouse inflation calculator .. On paper it will say £2350 is £4,000 in todays money .. But all the above went 3-4x over that period .. Heck, just think of how much did you pay the fruit in your local grocery store just 4 years ago .. It's 80% more expensive today.

I acquired my 16710GMT in 2002 and from memory that was £2350.

It’s frightening looking back at the old price lists to see how much they have changed over time. Omg that Saco Daytona isn’t for me but sure does stand out

Thanks for posting this!

I miss those catalogues. We had one here in Canada … it was almost like a small booklet (pocket size), with all the models and prices. I wish I still had it.

I have some catalogs from the early/mid 90’s with hand written prices. I will dig them out and do some pics. Catalogs are beat up from looking at them so much and going from dealer to dealer was how it worked back then to get the best discount.

Friend of mine recently bought a 2006 DJ 36mm stainless with Romans, jubilee band and fluted bezel. Any idea how much these were in 2006?

14 grand for a solid gold Daytona. Seems like bargain of the century now.
