Can u tell the difference between stainless steel, silver, white gold and platinum?

Just by looking at it?

I compared my platinum DD to the stainless steel alarm clock that I have and they look similar.

I want to be able to wear it without worry of being noticed by potential thieves.

If you are wearing a Day Date, then it hardly matters as they only come in either gold or platinum........

If you're really worried about it you could leave the DD at home and wear the SS alarm clock...

Precisely Larry and why buy a Platinum DD watch if you are going to be afraid to wear it no matter what the colour metal..

No I don't think most people can tell the difference between platinum, stainless steel or white gold. They all look very similar especially at a distance.

if a WIS PT950 DD owner can not really tell the colour difference between PT950 and SS, then what hope does a layperson have?

i think you are safe in terms of colour similarity....

I can't tell by looking but I assume jewelry experts can.

As noted above, the weight is different between the various metals though.

It's actually very easy to tell. They have very different color "temperatures". The weight is obviously very different and easy to appreciate. Put them side by side and yu would have no doubt which was which.

Except you can't do side-by-side when you are wearing only one watch, and I don't think the average person, potential thief or otherwise, will see anything other than a silver-colored metal that could be just about anything.

Most people cannot tell the difference. Only exception might be Platinum.

People think my SS Daytona is white gold, because it is stunning when polished and well just overall clean. Almost looks wet.

Yes...
SS has a cold hue....
White gold has a tinge of a warm tone in it, you will notice it specifically in certain reflections...
Platinum has less shine and is less reflective...
Silver is by nature darker then white gold and less reflective....

A few years ago I was sent a wg watch by mistake. It was immediately obvious it was white gold by color of the metal and by the weight. You shouldn't confuse any of them, even in isolation.

Most laypersons would not be able to distinguish WG from SS or platinum by just looking.
