My first Rolex

I've finally bought my first ever Rolex at age 32. Over the past year I've been thinking on and off regarding which watch I should buy and finally made my decision to purchase the green Submariner 116610LV and absolutely love it. Don't want to speak too soon, but hopefully I think this will be the only Rolex I will wear for many years to come.

I know everyone is different and have different tastes, but just like to share my thoughts on what made my decision.

I had a period of time where I liked the Milgauss 116400 GV, but I grew out of it eventually. Besides, it wasn't really practical as it has no date.

Eventually my interest moved onto the black sub, green sub, Explorer II (black), Yachtmaster with blue dial and GMT master (black and blue bezel). I filtered out Explorer II because I was thinking why get the Explorer II when the GMT master has the same functionality but with a rotating bezel. I filtered out Yachtmaster because I don't like the idea of damaging or scratching the platinum bezel, so it will have to be a ceramic bezel.

So that left me with choosing either black sub, green sub and GMT master. Filtering further, I decided not to go for black sub since I already have a black Omega Seamaster Pro 300m and wouldn't want another black watch. As with the green sub, this wasn't really on my choice list initially until the different shades of green on the dial just grew onto me.

So the final choices was either the green sub or the GMT master. Both are beautiful watches to me and I had to choose something that will fit into my day to day life. I figured that I'm not a frequent traveller and have no need for a second time on the GMT. Besides, I can't really use the bezel on GMT as a timer. However, on the sub, I can see how I can utilise the 0-60 graduation as a timer and as a second time, whereas the 1-24 graduation on the GMT bezel I can't see how I can effectively use the bezel as a timer without multiplying the numbers by 2.5 to work out the minutes. With the bezel on the sub, I'm perfectly comfortable with using this as a second time as I can easily see 5 as 1 o clock, 15 as 3 o clock, 40 as 8 o clock etc.

I'm extremely happy with my purchase just like any Rolex owner would.

I told my wife I will wear my Omega once in a while, but she thinks I will never go back to that watch. We'll see :)

Not sure if I'm allowed to post a link to my youtube video, but here is me unboxing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvZscHWaTY8

Congrats on becoming a member of the small, elite Society of the Hulk. May you wear the green beast with pride.

Ah sorry, here is my pic:

I've even gone through the extra mile by deliberately turning off date and time on my computer to give myself an excuse to look at the time on my watch more often :D

Congrats buddy. I too look forward in flipping my Tags for my first Rolex (116300, 116334, or 16613). The video was a classy touch.
