Help needed which Rolex

Hello watch community, I am new here. I am trying to buy a vintage Rolex for my dad for his 75 th birth day, I have a budget of 5000 USD. Please guide me which to choose
1. Sub 5513 ( one available for 4500 $ with nice patina)no papers
2.sub 1040 ( available with papers for 4700$)
3. 1040M

I choose submariner as dad was a diver in his young age, he can associate with it.
I choose no date sub as it's a classic and simple just the way my dad likes.

Or if any other vintage rolex at this price point.

I am living in Maldives, it's hard to get vintage watches near by.
Any members from Maldives or Any one visiting Maldives ;)

Thank you for your time

It will be a 14060 introduced around 1990 if its a 14060M thats from around 2000 on.My choice would be the 5513 depending on condition and approx year do you know the serial of the 5513.

In general, it seems fair. It would be best if you could show some pictures.

Pics would be a big help. But without them, I'd go with the 5513 with nice patina.

As you live in the Maldives, please realise that a vintage Rolex will probably not be waterproof, even a 1987 Submariner 5513, as the acrylic crystal can deteriorate. You will need to get it pressure tested to be sure. Any Rolex Service Centre in Male?

No rolex service center in maldives , nearest rolex service center we have is in Colombo , Sri Lanka or Mumbai , India .
As you rightly said I will get it pressure tested . Hope my dad won't go for swimming with it :)
Thank you .

hi it might be a good idea to ask the seller if it has been pressure tested recently.

First of all, welcome! How great to read from someone in the Maldives. Anyway, I think that's a great-looking Sub. Very cool matching patina. And from what little I can see of the lugs in the photos, the edges look sharp and presumably not too polished. The price seems fair, although I'd try to bargain down a little, because I assume the vintage-watch market in the Maldives is not what it would be in, say, NYC or London. Also, not sure you need to send it off to a Rolex Service Center. Just go to a good local watchmaker to make sure it's pressure-proof and running well. Perhaps you can have them change the gaskets. Good luck!

Hi and welcome - nice looking 5513 sub - that would be my choice.

And LOVE the Maldives; been three times (2008, 2010 and 2012). Olhuveli and LUX.

I am buying it from one of the forum member here based in US , it was told that the sub was pressure tested by rolex trained watch maker( not an AD ) end of summer 2013. Hope i don't have to send it to rokex service center for a while .

Thank you guys for valuable inputs and time .

Maldives is a beautiful small place with large expatriate community. May be we should try to make a group of watch enthusiasts in maldives.

TRF, it's such a refreshing learning experience.
Thank you
