BLNR vs Pepsi/Coke GMT

I'm having a problem making a decision between a older Pepsi/Coke GMT and the newer BLNR.

I currently wear a Y series Sub Date and was sure that I wanted a similar sized watch until I put on a new BLNR. I really doesn't feel as big as I thought it would and the ceramic bezel and different crown guards are growing on me. The only issue that is holding me back is that it seems the older Pepsi/Coke GMTs are starting to really get a following and the pricing is on the rise.

Should I go ahead and grab the Pepsi/Coke now and wait on the BLNR or just buy the newest version now and deal with a "possible" higher price in a year or two when I am able to buy.

Thanks

Brandon

They really do all feel great and on a small 6.5 inch wrist.

I'd go with the BLNR, I prefer the newer and better blue lume, the maxi dial and case and overall feel. The 16710 has gone up in price too much, if it was 5K I'd consider it, not anymore.

Funny I recently had to make the same decision. I went with BLNR as I couldn't justify the current prices of older Pepsi models. I still have a soft spot for them though, but not enough to push me over.

Someday I may add a newer WG Pepsi to my watches, but until then I am enjoying this beauty:

Brandon

The Pepsi is a deserved classic which just looks perfect.

The BLNR looks cheap in comparison and the PCLs just add to the bling.

Being loud is not what SS Rolex are about and the 16710 just got everything right.

Regards

Grab them all haha

Ok I would go for Pepsi first, for a good condition one & complete set.
Then, BLNR must also be added into the collection. Inevitably!

I fell in love with black blue bezel and it's constantly changing the way the light hits it. From far away he blue looks black so it can fly under the radar a little bit. I ended up choosing a blnr.

Tough one. I'd say buy the one you prefer now and don't get side tracked. If it's the BLNR then spring for it now or when you can, rather than finding an older 5 digit GMT.

(It may also be worth it to hold out for the new red and black SS GMT that'll be announced at Basel in March. Well, one can dream...)

It's more fun searching for a 16710 - and these are more available than the BLNR. But, the BLNR has a better bracelet...

I can't recommend a 16710 enough. They wear great.

In my opinion, Rolex didn't get the numeric style on the ceramic bezel right. It looks strange to me.

I would love a mint/unpolished 16710 Pepsi, but the ridiculous prices dealers are trying to get for them has soured me on the search. I guess if they can get $10k for a beat up Y serial, good for them.

I have to concede that there is no answer to that.

All of my Rolex are plain SS and to me they are what Rolex is all about, i.e a quality product presented in an understated way.

Some of the latest jazzed up stuff is what you would expect to be seen worn by a pimp, such is life I suppose.

In a way it is rather sad that Rolex is appealing to the brash and vulgar and I confess to being rather upset about it.

Anyway I am about to take the wife out for dinner so I will knock back a few whiskies to deaden the pain.

Regards

Mick

This is a tough one....you have to follow your heart on what's important and what you like. The five digits wear better imo with the slimmer case....but the blnr IMO is the most handsome modern Rolex. If I had to pick one I'd probably do the five digit but it's no easy choice.

I have and love both watches. Like Mick pointed out, the BLNR is a little bit loud and blingy. That being said, I would recommend seeking an older reference first as prices are escalating. Unless, of couse, you are a "Pimp" (Mick reference); then, I would say to go for the BLNR.

I appreciate the 5 digit models, but I much prefer the ceramics....

Personally, I couldn't live with the blue of the BLNR, and am much happier with the LN.

Pepsi prices are going up, and the blnr will eventually stop being the "hot watch" of the moment. I'd buyer older first - I think that's pretty good advice in general.

16710 all day long. Not a fan of the maxi dial and case, plus the PCLs are too flashy.

+1

Unpolished and complete set late serial 16710 = VERY HARD TO FIND.

Indeed. I bought mine for $3,000 and a typical seller would ask $7,000 or more now. It's a great watch, but that's a lot of money.

! You really can't go wrong. I agree that unpolished 16710s are becoming harder to find. However I do prefer the blnr and 16710 prices are just about as inflated as they are going to get for a while I think.

I thought that about the 16610lv back when they were $7,000 for a great one. Now, that's a deal.

IMO the 16710 is the perfect sports Rolex. It wears very comfortably and gives the option of changing from black-pepsi-coke with just a simple bezel change. The increasing prices of the 16710 speaks to their popularity and the diminishing amount of late models that are in good condition.

The BLNRs will always be easy to find later. I would suggest getting the 16710 now and the BLNR later on if it still appeals to you.

I too was battling with this dilemma and went with the 16710. The larger hour markers and larger numbers on the BNLR insert were not to my liking. I think the 16710 is perfectly proportioned. And the ability to swap out the inserts sold me too.
