Nice, but it needs to lose the polished center links and have narrower lugs or a wider bracalet! JMHO

The rest bits of the watch will come from the ceramic GMT with the exception of the bezel as it will have different font numbers and of course the dial

Well, I am not keen on the look, but I have always preferred the non date sub. SoI am biased.

I like the maxi dial, not a big fan of super cases and absolutely hate polished links. One of the major draws to Rolex for me is the history, if they start blinging out their Tool or Sport watch line, I'll look at other brands. I hope they don't forget what got them to were they are today, polished links belong on dress watches only.

Wow, I'm glad I got my Sub when I did. Not a fan of square of squarish watch cases. That big case loses me.

Thanks frostie for sharing this photoshop.
I think that it is a bit like the Mercedes going from square to round headlights. It will take a while, but people will grow to accept the wider lugs. I think the thickness of the bracelet will be increased for the new Sub. Maybe it might even get the DSSD bracelet. I don't know there is much that can be done between the width of the lugs and the bracelet. Thick lugs are needed to carry the spring bars, and that is at the cost of the lateral width of the bracelet. However, the width of the bracelet at 20mm is the same as before, so it is really the super case lugs....If they reduced those or at least elongated those lugs it might look a little better. As it is there is quite a difference in size from the outside width of the lugs where they meet the bracelet and the 20mm width of the bracelet.

IMO
It would be an extremely bad move from Rolex if they fit the Sub with a bracelet that is similar to the GMT IIc Daytona. As the watch is obviously designed for diving, it shouldn't be fitted with a nice shiny bracelet. As it will get scratched and marked very easily. Also it may attract unwanted attention while you are diving.

I do like the maxi dial but the dial now looks too small against the bigger case. IMO the current markers on the Sub are too small. I would like to see maxi markers on a slightly bigger dial, more like the GV size. This would mean increasing he overall diameter by say 2mm but keep the thickness as it is now. Also I can't see the bracelet clasp. The bracelet needs to stay brushed with a new more solid clasp. Choose one with a locking tab like the new GMT II SSc or the SS Daytona.
I am waiting for these new features on the Blue TT Sub. That would be excellent.

The SD is gone
The GMT is gone The daytona has polished center links Seems like the only simple sport watch left is the Sub and Exp Pray that one original remains |

I like it for the most part.....
I like it for the most part. If it has the same type clasp and bracelet as the DSSD I will get one. The polished center links are no big deal; they are very easy to change to brushed. But I will also keep my other two Submariners.

eh, that pic is just a photoshopped GMTIIc case. wide lugs and narrow bracelet.
I hope it doesn't look like the pic. Rolex can do better. Great find though! |

Am I the only one to be bothered by the squarish shape of the super-case?
With the expanded width at the top and bottom of the super case, the bracelet always looks to me somewhat thin and spindly, and does not integrate aesthetically with, or "flow out of", the supercase, unlike the previous oyster case. I have been to see the GMT IIC many times, but each time this deters me from buying one. Same with the new blue Sub introduced in Basel 2008. Interestingly, the Deep Sea Dweller's version of the supercase looks great to me , because the case outline tapers very gently towards the bracelet, avoiding those jarring angles. It retains the elegance and shape of the old oyster, yet with a tougher new attitude. I'm still trying to get the true beauty of the supercase if it is there, and perhaps loads of people are smitten by it, I don't think I'm being conservative, as I would welcome a new case if it looked good and built upon the good looks of the old oyster. |

First I would like to see the lugs get narrower.
the thicker lugs make this watch very "un-aerodynamic". The smooth transition from the lug to the bracelet is lost. Don't mind center link either way. Hopefully the clasp will be the upgraded kind like Daytona

IMO the new submariner looks great. I would definately increase the numbers on the bezel to match the LV and have the polished centre links.
MGM has hit the nail in the head as regards the more recent Rolex upgrades. The changes are tweaks on an previous model that may attract different and diverse audience. Where would Mercedes, BMW, Ferrari etc be if they didn't upgrade there ranges. |

Ermmmm aren't we forgetting one thing....
This is a speculated photoshop image. I think the ceramic Sub with look pretty similar to the WG one they are releasing this year. Rolex aren't daft enough to go messing around with a design classic...and before you all throw GMT at me, it a classic watch but it aint the Sub!!!!! J |

My thoughts (having both the current sub and the GMT IIc)
+ Maxi + Super Case + Ceramic Bezel + New Clasp (doesn't need to be like GMT IIc, but something better than the folded kind) + Heavy solid middle links (I just love the feel, I know the sub bracelet is strong) - Polish

this pic is just the YG sub but in B/W
no photoshop here (work) the SUBDATE will be as it is on the pic, period with polish center link, 40mm case and narrow hour hand (same as LV) which means, GO DEEPSEA !!! (fat hands, fat case, brushed bracelet) no brainer to me olivier |
