Imagine My Incredulity - Daytona Saves The Day
Just moments before embarking on my luxurious journey to Fiji for the highly esteemed annual whales convention, I made a rather distressing discovery. It appears that my exquisite collection of Patek Philippe timepieces, renowned for their unparalleled craftsmanship, possess a rather disappointing level of water resistance - a mere 30 meters, if you can believe it! Such a trivial depth renders them utterly unsuitable for the grandeur of the occasion.
In a desperate scramble to maintain my impeccable image of opulence and extravagance in front of my esteemed cohort of crypto-bros and Instagram influencers, I had to swiftly acquire a beach-appropriate trinket that would exude the appropriate level of ostentation. Fortunately, being the esteemed whale that I am, I was able to effortlessly procure this "sports watch" through the assistance of Carruthers. While it may serve as a temporary beater until I can acquire something more befitting of my refined taste, it shall suffice for now. I cannot help but ponder whether my newly acquired Ferrari will have been delivered to the prestigious Saltburn Heights upon my triumphant return. Such trivial matters, however, are of little concern to one of my stature. Farewell for now, my dear acquaintances. |

Functional enough I suppose. I do hope the Cryptbros didn’t talk too much behind your back about showing up a bit light.

I know i know, it was awfully embarresing. I felt like one of " the others", you know the sort, types that use buses and such like. The great unwashed if you will. Damn those fools at Patek. If only i could have found my cache of AP's.

A shame you couldnt do better given your time limitation - on the positive, then a daily beater on the wrist is better then none.
Try to enjoy the best you can, but “somehow” sense that wont be a problem. Congrats |

Why didn’t you just wear the Bluesy? It’s the better choice for the water.

On a less tongue in cheek note the Daytona is a nice watch , but the reality is never quite as good as the pictures I often see. I'd also hoped the pop of red would be more visible in the same way that the blue font is on my slate YM. And eff me if at 55 those subdials are almost unreadable. Not sure it's a keeper. Mind you things tend to grow on me.
I actually mostly wore my Linde Werdelin dive watch, didnt want to scratch. The new aquisition mucking around in the pool with the kids. Did that a few years ago with my week old yachtmaster, not that I really mind scratches. Out of the 5 ive got I'd say they all have their place, but agree with Kat the Bluesy suited the trip better. Fiji was fun. Quick 2.5 hour hop for me. Was quite suprised at how many Americans there were floating around, I tend to think of Fiji as a destination for Australasians. Some bloke from LA was wearing a nice 5 digit pepsi and an Aussie a huge AP, outside of that not many watches at all, which suprised me because the resort was turbo posh. Maybe only old people like me wear watches now. Kids had a good time. Son came with me to collect my watch before we flew which was nice. |

The other thing I'd add is that if you dont want stainless steel they just chuck these things at you. My rootbeer, bluesy, olive DD and this Daytona were all easy. 3 of them in a 12 month period. Clever and quite deliberate strategy on the part of Rolex to boost profit. Never really understood the stupidly disproportionate upcharge for PM. Is what it is.
