Does anyone know when solid link bracelets will be available for sports models?

So far all models EXCEPT SS sports have solid links, they have already done this in datejusts (oyster) so I think the next logical action is a heavier bracelet for Subs, Exp's, YM's, Daytonas and GMT's....do you know anything about this possibility?

Saludos!

Gerardo,

Rolex are too smart (and too damn miserly) to give away anything. As long as their sports line-up sells like the proverbial hot cakes, they aren't going to bother giving away all that extra metal (be it SS or gold as in TT) for anyone or anything.

They only introduced it in their new TOG and DJ lines 'cause those were slow movers and were in dreadful need of some improvement and rejuvenation.

Cheers - JJ

Just out of interest, what sort of price premium do people think solid gold centre links would put on the price of a current TT sports bracelet?

cheers,
Andy

Andy, look at it like this. In Canda a SS Subdate goes for CDN$6500 plus tax. A TT Sub goes for about CDN$10,000. The only diff is the gold and you can't tell me the amount of gold used is worth an additional $3,500.

A SS OEM bracelet goes for $800... I can only guess a TT one would likely be close to double that.

It is all a guess, but Johnny seems pretty close to on the mark.

Who knows. Someday? Maybe never. All this talk about "solid" bracelets is nice but let's remember kids that a solid ss bracelet combined with a heavy case like the one found on a ss sports model would make for a watch that feels like a brick on your wrist.

It does for sure. My Seiko Black Monster has solid SS links and weighs a ton. But it's extremely comfortable too. I wish my Rolex bracelet had as much heft and beef as the Seiko one.

Very true....while the Exp-II weighs in at a light 126 grams, my Crosswind tips the scale at a massive 186 grams (less one link). I can straight away feel the enormous difference on the wrist.

You will not be able to wind your Breitling as fast as the Rolex JJ. But if you keep it long enough, you should build up a very strong and powerful wrist action.

That was the big reason why my affair with the Omega Planet Ocean ended after three months. Too much watch.

I think for everyday use, hollow links work just fine.

You just need to go to the gym more, or need more practice winding your watch.

I am not a small guy but there is something about a 42mm wide/13mm high case that is too big for daily wear. Beautifuly made watch though.

40mm is just right.....

True, but their weight ratio of bracelet with watch head are better balanced. The OMEGA PO was really very, very heavy at a massive 222 grams....that's like close to HALF A BLOODY POUND!!!

I used to think that, too, Andy, but once I got used to wearing the Breitling Olympus, which is 43 mm x 15.4 mm, it's not bad. The only problem is that I can't wear it with the cuffs buttoned on some of my shirts.

And after wearing the Olympus for a while, my GMT looks a bit small when I first put it on again.

The PO was comfortable, but obtrusuve. A lot of my shirts would not button over the watch. I just like the dimensions of the Rolex sport line for everyday use. If the PO was the same size as the seamaster I probably would have kept it.
