After going through the last few bits of this thread, I just want to thank you guys for all the kind words.
And, hey Ed, I've read the Lone Ranger comics when I was a kid. Just couldn't connect that "paleface" crack with the comic, that's all!!

I have seen a few of these replicas, and in fact, my uncle got burned with a fake DRSD a few years back.
It is truly scary how accurate they can be-a friend has a fake SD, and comparing it to my authentic SD, there are obvious differences, but without a real one to compare it to, I can see how people get fooled easily (his has an ETA movement, sapphire crystal, fake He valve). Only outward differences are that the second hand sweeps slightly less smoothly, the bezel is 60 clicks (not the 120), the case is more similar to a Sub case than the SD (thinner, and slightly lighter), and if you look closely, the "C" in "ESCAPE" on the caseback engraving is actually an "O"! But, he has been diving with it, and treats it like any other watch-it has held up beautifully. It was a gift a few years back from a friend who lived overseas. My uncle's fake DRSD was probably the highest quality fake you'd see. It had ALL the correct markings, and I thought it was real, until he took it in for service, and they confirmed that it wasn't. He bought it in Dubai, and is still trying to get $ back (he actually bought it in a store there). It kept COSC time, and looked authentic, and vintage. They seized it when it was confirmed to be fake. I cannot recommend strongly enough that people either buy from an AD, or from someone trusted. It is ridiculous and disheartening to get burned by the fakes (I have been burned on two fake Omega 300s in the past, until I took my own advice) Chris PS-my first post here! |
