Daytona ss to yg pm
Having one daytona would you keep the ss panda or trade it up to a yg and add some $?
Is it more.iconic to have a ss or a pm ? Not a value standpoint but rather as a collector's point of view |

I think I would trade to white gold on OysterFlex, I think I would trade for YG John Mayer .. are you looking to trade ?

I personally think SS references will always be more collectible.

SS Daytonas wear so small on me that PM is the only way for me, I really like them with a Ceramic bezel so the YG Champagne OF or Ghost would be my choices.

Worthy of consideration. The YG PN on bracelet is an amazing piece. Are you comfortable wearing it as a daily?

This was true on 1165 models but now on the 1265 they all share the same case across different metals so they wear the same

You have the more desirable watch. I would keep it.

I think the 116500 is too great of a modern Daytona to trade or sell.
Both a blessing and a curse if you have one.

Traded my white 116500 and a pepsi ceramic with both bracelets... plus some cash... for a YG 116508 "pikachu." I wish I could reverse it. It's been about 7 months now. After two months, I realized it was a mistake, but I'm faced with a market where I'm losing about $10k worth of equivalent value that I put in to acquire it.
Don't get me wrong--it's an awesome watch. I have enjoyed wearing it, and as a first PM piece, the 116508 has been an excellent introduction to the weight, luster, and all that gold has to offer. If I had other watches in my collection that were of equal caliber, I'd probably feel differently. But to lose two of the most versatile pieces, it just wasn't worth it. The stainless Daytona is way more wearable if you're OCD about scratches, not to mention the security factor where it's far more under the radar. I wore my panda with little fear anywhere. On a rubber strap walking around New Orleans. Hiking and snorkeling in Maui. With a suit to meet clients. It just worked everywhere. I'd keep the stainless if I were you, as a regrettable former owner and hopeful future owner again at some point. |

I’d rather have a full PM Daytona than a SS Daytona amongst a collection that has other steel watches. As a one watch collection only, I’d rather have the SS.

I think you got the collector's dream, unless you find yourself much preferring the Daytona to the Day Date. Then I'd move the DD40 in favor of a PM Daytona. Whether that's Oysterflex or full bracelet depends on your preference.

Collectors point of view as you put it probably the steel one.
In terms of which one is better well for me gold is always better :) |

My favorite watch in my collection is my 116508 with the PN dial (black dial w/ champagne counters). But I also love my stainless steel 116500 LN Daytona. They both wear very differently, both with how they feel and their prominence with how they present.
If I were you, I'd keep the stainless steel model, as they are harder to replace through your Rolex dealer. Save up and add the gold model when you can. You'll love having both watches - otherwise you risk the fear of missing out wishing for the one you don't have.

I think the dials on the PM models are much more interesting and ‘historically’ correct. A modern PM Daytona with a classic looking dial is hard to beat.
The SS ones are beautiful but I could choose it would be a gold one

I have had 2 PM Daytonas. Both sold. I have the SS 1165 and 1265. Both staying in the collection. For PM watch I am going DD or a Patek.

Hell yeah. I had this watch and miss it dearly. It’s considerably more special than a steel Daytona imo

if you're looking at it from a collector's perspective rather a value standpoint, both the SS panda and the YG daytona have their unique appeal.,

I’d keep the SS from both a collector’s POV as well as personal preference… YG does absolutely nothing for me.

I only ask as I am on the list for one and will sell my 116520 to make way for it. Hearing you talk makes me feel I would regret it or that the 126508 is overhyped. I know it's not a panda but SS Daytona classic all the same. The only other thing I was considering would be an all gold Daytona, do you wish you would have done that? Thanks for your thoughts. |
