A Sub is a very practical watch for anyone that will never lose its appeal. By today's standards, it can be worn with most any attire.
The GMTII is a very beautiful and versatile watch. I think that it is the most versatile watch in terms of wardrobe and utility. It tells time in three timezones and the bezel will work as an elapsed time bezel, if you so desire. The YMII is highly specialized in its utility and its busy dial and bright color scheme would not be a very versatile accessory to your wardrobe, especially for business purposes. You could buy all three and you could have a lot of bases covered. Adding a DJ would really round things out.

Honestly for an 18 y/o I think something like an Explorer II might work best, but out of the ones you mentioned I'd go with the GMT. There are a LOT of Subs out there, but you don't see a GMT every day.

All great watches. Not a fan of the Explorer personally but hey, Prince Harry has one so who the heck am I to cast an opinion!!
If you are a very active / sporty person, go with the Sub. If you are more relaxed and dare I say 'preppy' then go for the YM2. |

I would think either a sub or sea dweller would keep you happy for a long time. IMHO

It has been said before...many Subs out there. I would go for the GMT. Get an older one with some texture and character. Something that you can tell stories about....something you can imagine who has been knocking around in it for years before. Real class!

Really kind of depends on your personality. Get to an AD and try some on and see if any sing out to you. If I were in your position I'd consider an older Submariner maybe a 14060M or an Explorer I. Also as mentioned above possibly Explorer II. Good luck in your hunt and welcome to TRF.

To get an idea of pricing, check the classified section of this forum. I concur with many of the others and would select a Submariner for you.

I bought my first Rolex when I was 20...a Sub no date 14060M. I think it's a great first Rolex. I've had others which I have eventually flipped but the 14060M isn't going anywhere

At 18, I would definitely go with the 116619 WG Submariner:)

36mm explorer or a datejust ,,, and add sportier watches later .
keep the first as a simple classic that will stay with you for the rest of your days. and never sell it , add to the collection , but always keep the first. |
