Your opinions - The new Grand Seiko independent, or the old Seiko Grand Seiko?

Posted this in another forum, and wanted to canvas opinions around here as well.

What do you prefer in terms of logos on the dial? The new GS only that sits at the top of the dial, or the old Seiko at the top and GS at the bottom?

Pics below for reference from the internet!

It doesn't matter to me. I am buying the watch for the quality of it. Not the placement of the logo.

I like the old version, mainly because of the "they don't make that anymore" factor.

I don't disagree on quality, however, one or the other has to be more visually pleasing to you. Aesthetics do play a part in watch buying for most!

I go back and forth about that too. I like the new logo and the cleanliness of the dial, but I also like that the old version is no longer made. I don't love the Seiko on top though, so at some point I have to decide what's more important to me personally.

I have been obsessing over this very thing with the 031 vs the 231. I go back and forth on it daily. I tend to lean toward the old dial on the 031 as to me the 231 looks a little empty with no text below the hands. Also I find it somewhat appealing to have "SEIKO" proudly displayed at the top when there are some less knowledgeable folks out there that would sneer at my lowly Seiko.

Regardless, I absolutely love this watch in either variant and hope to own it within the next 12 months.

New one for sure.

Grand Seiko should stand alone.

Seiko Grand Seiko is a bit much.

The new logo placement looks cleaner, and the "GS" looks very distinct from the typical Seiko watches, GS or otherwise.

The old one with the "SEIKO" on top could be briefly mistaken as a regular Seiko, instead of a GS - not that it matters to the wearer. At least it won't to me, if I had this beauty.

The older version's logo placements seem more balanced, imho.

I prefer the cleaner new dials. Probably worth noting that I was never a Seiko collector before GS, so I have no emotional attachment to the Seiko name.

100 times, yes. And how clean and precise that “SEIKO” is

I can appreciate both, but my money went for the 231.

Darn those are 2 good lookin watches. My vote goes for the newer one with just GS on it for the cleaner appearance. Less redundancy, more space.

No right or wrong answer but I went old when I bought a snowflake. I always wanted one as a stealth watch so the "Seiko" branding appealed. The rebranding was recent at the time so I grabbed a SBGA011 asap in case they became hard to find.

I have also owned the newer branding in the SBGH267. Given the dial on that one the new logo is certainly welcome as it frees up more of the pattern to the eye

(Not my photos but they show the watches better than I ever could!)

SEIKO obviously went for the New GS logo. I hated the SEIKO on top of GS on the old logo!

It does, but I have always loved the GS's I have owned and currently own so a few alphabets won't change that for me.
