Cleaning a Rolex
I'm interested in using an ultrasonic cleaner to clean my watches. I would remove the watch from the bracelet and only put the bracelet in the cleaner. I would hand wash the case. Is this a good idea? If yes which ultrasonic cleaner do you use? Also, how would I remove the bracelet from the watch? I have a SS Daytona 116520 and YG DD40. Which tool do you suggest to remove the bracelet from the watch?
Thanks! |

Good idea but overkill to do it every time you wash the watch. Once a year is adequate. 2 a year at most. Can use the cheapest Amazon brand

I use the Bergeon 7825 tweezers for removing the bracelets.

Over kill and the possibly of damaging the case from constant bracelet removal is way way too great to just wash a watch. Unnecessary and if you get a springbar slip and ding on your lugs you will be sick.
Just use diluted Dawn dish soap and wash the entire watch often and you won’t get grime build up. Your watch will always look pristine/clean and your bracelet will last longer.

If you had OCD you’d wash it constantly, not often.

Cleaning a Rolex
I agree that overdoing a cleaning that includes removing the bracelet multiple times a year can be a recipe for damage.
I agree washing with a mild soapy solution should get the job done. If one is worried about gunk deeper in the bracelet links, instead of ultrasonic, a steam bullet type of cleaner is just as cheap as a basic ultrasonic and careful use of steam doesn't require removing the bracelet. I use only the finest dish soap (Dawn) under gently running cool (not cold) tap water and then dry with a well-worn vintage cotton t-shirt complete with artisanal holes. Sometimes I even wash the t-shirt first. And I do this twice a year whether the watch needs it or not.

I'm in camp overkill. But taking care of your watch is always a good idea. Water and very little soap should suffice between services.

Every now & then I'll wash my watch when I wash my hands (which I do quite often).
I'll just soap everything up & rinse. easy peasy. |

Just a follow up, Dawn and your fingers under water does the trick. I wash them all the time like this. It will also keep your rubber dive straps, looking new and extending their life. I wash my watch the same time I wash my glasses, which is practically daily.

Soap, water and a tee shirt is all I’ve ever used.
