Explorer

Any thoughts on why the Explorer hasn’t had the price explosion as the other sport models?

I think it has, pushing well above retail and you have to wait

It's trading 40-50% over retail

The new 36mm Explorer retails for $6450 USD and routinely trades on the grey market for $10,000+ so I would say that your premise is flawed.

Its a acquired taste.

But we are not hoping for more "price explosions" are we?

It has, also the watch is a slow burner - One of the last pure tool watches left.

Easy: lower demand than other sport models. It's the only 36, so not entirely surprising. A member here posted yesterday that their dealer had one in the case for sale, so these aren't nearly as in-demand it seems.

Feels and looks smaller than 36.

$10k for a 6.5K watch, i think that's pretty steep.

I have tried on several exhibition models and it is very comfortable. 36 mm is not the most popular size because most people want their watch to be "large and in charge" imo.

This
36mm now rules many people out.

Explorer used price going up recently. Regret not buying earlier. AD told me it is hard to get now.

I got a 39mm Explorer in 2019 at retail from an AD. Now worth much more than I paid then.

You will love the watch - I wear mine daily! It really is the ideal Rolex in both size, clean visual balance and pure function. Congrats

Thank you! I have wanted one for a while before it was discontinued and spent too long thinking about the new 36mm. I decided I wanted the 39mm and new it would be harder and harder to find a nice example the longer I waited. And they were not getting any cheaper!

Explorer 36mm is tasteful and not garish , does not appeal to the ' Instagram crowd '

I totally agree and was pretty sure I would like a 36mm. However, I knew it would be harder to get the 39mm in the long run so decided to pull the trigger on this one and if I decided I didn’t like, I could trade into production model 36mm.

I owned the most recent 39mm Explorer and when I learned about the 36mm , I sold and put my name down for 36mm but despite a modest buying history , got badly let down by the AD and after waiting months / they weren't getting back to me , I phoned them and voiced my thoughts telling them not to bother , it remains one of my favourite watches

I’ve requested a 36mm at my AD. My SA tells me 2-6 months. She also said, “When I call you, don’t hesitate,” implying that there are no second chances.

True, some lack the confidence to wear a small watch.

I think a part of it is a lot of people are attracted to watches because of the look i.e the form. Then some people are more attracted to the function. The 36 mm is a watch that every time i have got to try it on seems extremely comfortable. It doesn't take up all of the real estate on your wrist and looks more like a traditional watch then the "brick on the wrist". Funny thing about those folks who get a brick on the wrist watch is that they do not wear it daily unless it is a larger guy who is usually a fat controller type of fella who sits at a desk most likely. all of the people that i know who have been lucky enough to get a 36 mm explorer are wearing it daily. they don't notice it on their wrist. they got the 36 mm explorer because they wanted it as a watch primarily first and foremost. not to collect, not to show off the brick on the wrist. but to have a watch that only tells time and will last.

Well I received my 39mm and it seems much smaller in person but very nice! Have not had it out yet but really looking forward to some solid T and E with it. Will report back!

I have both the 39 mm and a 36 mm. I wear the 39 and my girlfriend wears the 36.
