"Cory Wayde" aka corywayde@gmail.com scam attempt

I posted a watch for sale here and on WUS. An individual posing as a potential buyer, using the name Cory Wayde, contacted me via email and asked for more pics of the watch for sale. I obliged.

The individual then used those pics and the language in my listing to post a fraudulent version of a sales post, purportedly for the same watch, on Timezone. A wary user contacted me to see if the pics were of my watch - which they were - and a TZ admin removed the listing.

Gotta be careful selling as well as buying these days.

That's pretty low-down.

Wow. Just... wow. I am dealing with this same character right now. I'm selling a BNIB watch and he emailed me with an offer and asking for additional pictures. I was wondering why the hell someone would want additional pictures of a brand-new watch, but I obliged once he agreed that we'd have a deal if I sent him more pics.

I was JUST about to send him the additional pictures when I decided to first google "rolexforums cory wayde" to see if I could maybe find his username and look at his post history... and I come across this thread, posted mere hours ago!

Thanks so much for the heads up.

"Cory Wayde" aka corywayde@gmail.com scam attempt

Glad to be of service! I thought it was a reasonable request when he asked that I take pics of the watch on the morning paper. I am obviously not a big time seller or anything, so I figured it made sense he'd want to verify that I actually had the watch in my possession, etc.

So, I was puzzled when the WUS user contacted me about the fake sales post pertaining to my watch on TZ. This "Cory Wayde" person listed the watch for a reasonable amount - using my pics - but "Cory Wayde" told this other user he'd cut him a deal if he wired $2300 to him right away.

If it's too good to be true...it is. Glad we caught what this idiot was trying to do before something bad happened.

And I am very pleased this post helped you avert a similar problem!

I am also not a big-time seller. That's probably why you and I were selected as contestants. In my case, the alarm bells went off because he wanted additional pictures of a brand-new phone. When I was going to send him the pictures, I was actually going to ask him for his TRF user name and references... but I found this thread first!

If you got scammed by this guy on Friday, shouldn't you have posted about it here at WatchOut?

That's four people already. Is this serious enough to post in a higher-traffic subforum like the for-sale section?

Well, if "Cory Wayde" asked for pics on Friday (like he did to the rest of us) and the fraudulent nature of what that person intended to do wasn't discovered until Sunday, when I posted this thread, the puzzle pieces weren't put together enough for the Friday request for pics to seem amiss to any one of us. Fortunately, at this point, if anyone googles that name, this thread is the first result.

Bottom line result, we probably only burned one alias for this person, but at least we did that.

I did not know it was a scam until today when I came to this section. I just posted it in my listing as well.

Btw, the email address this fraudster posted in at least one of his false listings was: bwtc0250@airpost.net. So, watch out for that one also. He registered at TZ as "bwtc0250" for purposes of posting the false listing of my watch, apparently, and was subsequently banned.
