Depends what else you have in the collection. I wouldn't have a 15202 as an only watch. No second hand, no quick set date and no screw down crown. For a daily beater I would go with the 15400 or 15500 or if you like the 39mm I would try and find a 15300 in good condition.

It's apples and oranges. And personally I don't like apples.
One has to decide if ones watch decisions are monetary or "love of" to decide what to do. The AP costs a lot more but doesn't appeal to me at all. And that particular DJ doesn't either. Buy what you love. |

Also agree with this. Quote:
In my opinion, apples and oranges. APs are just stunning watches and true works of art from a detail perspective. They are truly beautiful. When I want to wear something special, I reach for my AP. As a daily beater, the Rolex will be 10 times tougher and take a way better beating. I don’t think they’re in the same league, and certainly shouldn’t be considered for the same workload.

AP without a doubt. A date just (or 3) are not on the level of the Audemars in terms of fit and finish. And the bracelet is one of the best, only rivaled by the day date imo

I would go AP...I own a few APs and love wearing them. I also have 5 or 6 Rolex models varying from PM and SS. Where I live you don’t see too many APs so it’s feel more special. Wearing an AP is like when you are wrapping a Christmas present and the scissors start doing that gliding thing on the wrapping paper.....oh yeah...mmmm haha

WISE DECISION. FWIW, I did have to purchase their 1.5 link for an optimal fit. It’s pricey for a SS link (350ish) but worth it with the price of entry.

Since it's all hypothetical and for fun anyway.
I'd take that specific AP reference. I would love to have it my collection. But probably not if it were my only watch. Also, not before getting my Sub/DJ/GMT. |

I don't think this is fair comparison, the AP will always come out on top

Have owned both, AP hands-down. No contest. The finishing is on a different level and that is apparent once you try one on. Also think the bracelet is the best in the business, with the presi bracelet a close second. I don't find the bracelet to be a scratch magnet, however the bezel can be easily scratched (no different than PP Nautilus).
Also, remember you are asking in the rolex sub-forum. the AP sub-forum would be overwhelmingly an AP response.

Rolex if it’s 36mm. And prefer a lighter dial.

FWIW, I had an AP 15400 and just couldn't bond with it. I sold it and got a DJ41 (blue dial, jubilee, fluted bezel) and still had a lot of cash left over. I have not regretted it for a second.

If I had a few Rolex and Omega type of watches I’d pick AP. If I was choosing a one and only watch it would be a Rolex or Omega or something like that, probably a GMT LN but a DJ would do just fine.

Well, I have a TT DJ 41, and on a one-to-one basis, ignoring cost/value, my aesthetic and daily wear preference is my DJ and would not trade it for an AP. That said, I’d love to add an AP RO down the road.

Over the years, my opinions on value have shifted. I know it's subjective but the AP is not 3 times better than the DJ. Just like the Daytona is not 4 times better than the Speedmaster. |

in theory, id like to have 1 grail over 3 'standard' models. however in practice, i tend to try and find a balance of volume/cost
