ym question
the ym is the next watch i plan to buy... although i don't have the money yet (still saving after getting the subdate 2 months ago) i've been doing a little research on the ym. my question is (excuse the ignorance) but does the platinum bezel scratch or dent ? i guess platinum in general that is? i posted a couple of days ago on the TOG but i assume that the bezel being 18k gold would dent or scratch easily and would be expensive to replace in the long run... this actually is also confusing me whether to get the ss/plat or the tt ym.. thanks guys

Platinum is a pretty hard metal, certainly harder than SS. Like any metal, given a hard enough hit, it will dent as well as scratch.

I wear a platinum ring and it scratches and dings, but it is harder than 18K gold. Plus it looks nicer :-)

I think comparing platinum to 18K isn't saying all that much, seeing as how 18K is so soft. On the other hand, if you're comfortable wearing 18K and don't have to worry about dings, platinum will do you just fine.

I am not easy on my watches, but I also don't kill them either, but my YM has only one scratch on the bezel and you have to look very close to see it. I have had it a bit over a year and it still looks great.
I have damaged a bezel on a GMT Master, but never on my YM. The small scratches can be removed when the watch is overhauled by Rolex.

bogey, I don't think you will have any problem what so ever with a Platinum or 18kt bezel personally. I feel it they were all that fragile then they (Rolex) would not be selling them or people would not be buying them.
