The skirt turns a blind eye so long as I come home every night, there's a roof over our heads, food on the table, the kids' educations are paid for and the bills are paid in full at the end of the month (that means no debt carried over on the credit cards). Any of the above starts slipping, though, and the watches are the first to go. ![]() Yes. Regards, Adam PS - It also helps that my mother is my partner in crime: To wit, I pick a watch, she buys it, it's shipped to her apartment, I pay her back under the table in small amounts, wife is none the wiser. Done. This way, my wife doesn't see a huge chunk of cash leave the checking account, my mom gets to feel like she's pulling one over on her daughter-in-law and I get a new watch. It's a win-win-win situation.

Before when I was single, I bought what I wanted. Now that I'm married, I need the wife's OK... Can't go buy without that OK otherwise it'll be a long discussion afterwards. I love my wife and you need to understand that it's a 2 person camp now that you're married.
I could buy 3 APs right now... Problem is the wife will kill me 3 times over as well. I'll just wait and bide my time and pick the watch I really want and pick my battle that way. I think we had agreed to 1 watch a year if it's a Rolex and 1 every other year if it's an AP and then 1 every 3 years if I decide on a 40k Patek 5980.

Dr. Mom and I have this down to a science.
The real trick, however, is to allow myself to get "caught" every now and then (for example, I let her bust me on an ROO bracelet, my MIH watch and will probably get "sloppy" and let her catch my incoming Sinn 142); this way she thinks I'm way too stupid to ever pull one over on her, which means that when she sees, say, the Forged Carbon Diver on my wrist and I tell her that it's one I've had for a while, she doesn't doubt it. Wheels within wheels, plans within plans... Yes, I could open a separate checking/savings account, but that's a slippery slope that I don't want to go down. Yet. Regards, Adam |

2012 welcomed a sub 2 liner, a Tudor Tiger, a Daytona and a peachy Tudor Snowflake. Luckily I managed to find a mint Mini Sub for the wife as her tolerance was stretched beyond the limit. Think I may have awakened a sleeping giant though. She's taking a bit too much interest in watches now.

Mike, I acknowledge you as the premier high-end collector with style on this forum. Your knowledge and feedback seems to be unprecedented. Everything I've asked seriously about timepieces, you've answered definitivey.

Nice of you to say, Tim. But I'm just one of the regular blokes here. Sure I've always got an opinion that I'm happy to share with anyone who'll listen but I just enjoy this forum and if I can return just a fraction of what I've gained then I'm thrilled.

I choose a timepiece I want to add to my collection, and I save for it.
It may take 8, 12, 16, or in some cases 24 months, but I wait and I save. I remain focused on the watch I want, by reading up on it, researching it, going to the AD periodically to see it and try it on, etc... I also save beyond the cost of the watch, meaning, if the watch is $10k, I'll wait until I have $12-$15k in my watch fund, before I make the purchase. The nice thing is, I am using discretionary income for my purchases, I am purchasing watches that I truly like, and they are investment-grade. In a pinch, I know I could probably sell the watches for at least the price I paid for them. However, I try and make sure to never be in a situation where I would have to sell my watches. It's fun, the anticipation and build-up make it all the more worthwhile once I finally get the watch I want, and I have the satisfaction of watching my collection grow with carefully selected timepieces that I truly like and enjoy.
