I am hoping to get a new Patek in the next month.

The choices that I have gone for are two from the Calatrava and one from the Gondolo range.
All are manual wind and imo simple but classic Patek's.
See what you think and make a choice!

1) 5124G (Gondolo)
2) 5196g ( Calatrava)
3) 5196R (Calatrava)

I like the hue of the pink/rose/red gold that Patek uses. Best of luck in your decision making process. They all look fantastic.

Like JJ, I also don't usually go for square watches. But I'd make an exception here. That top watch is exquisite. And wears well on your wrist with that strap especially.

Tony, I would take the Gondolo
It's so different compared with all those round watches.
If it would be the first and only I would not take it but since you have already quite some stunning watches I think the Gondolo would be a good choice

Would it make a difference if one (5124) had a sapphire back over the 5196 solid back?

If both watche slooked exactly the same I would ofcourse take the one with sapphire back but I you slightly prefer the 5196, I would not take the 5124 only because of the back.

5196 R or G ? Well, in that case the G.
Don't ask me why, somethimes I prefer R, other times G and somethimes even J but for this watch I would pick the G
talking about the 5070 I would sy R and for the 5970 I would pick J, it really depends on the model

I have always been enamored of rectangular wristwatches so the Gondolo 5124G gets my vote.

The rectangular watch that intrigues me at the moment is the yet to be released ETERNA Madison Spherodrive.

I tried JLC Reverso but did not like the way they fit my wrist.

did you consider the 5124J ?

It's a pitty it has not the Breguet numbers but I'm not a fan of salmon dials

Its a nice looking watch, but I just prefer W/G and the dial for me is something very different.

U may wish to consider the 5296 which has a clear case (can see the GOLD counter-weight) and is self-winding with DATE and 38mm

5196 has a rich history to the series though.....

Indeed the 5196 is imo the most beautifull simple PP watch. Unfortunatly it is in platinum which makes is a lot more expensive.

But maybe some good deal (crisis deals

) can be found

The dial is so amazing , love the seconds at 6 o'clock and the Breguet numbers make it look perfect

(picture found on the net, don't know the owner)

if they would make this in 41 mm , I would have a problem ;-) wouldn't know what to sell but I would definitely start saving :-)
With 38 mm, it still is a gorgeous watch but to small for my wrist

That is an excellent choice for a Patek.

But in this case,I am looking at getting a manual wind watch.

I too like the 5196P and nearly got a preowned one, but I lost it through hesitating for tooooo long.

I personally like the now-defunct two tone platinum/rose gold version of the Gondolo. There are still some available at dealers, probably at a discount
