Anyone Gone From a DayDate back to a Datejust?

I'm mostly a sports watch guy. You'll see I have a slate YM, Rootbeer and a Bluesy. Also Panerai and Linde Werdelin.

I've been coveting the Datejust for a few years, my partner has one and I love it.

Anyway I was lucky enough to score a rose gold olive Day-Date a while back.

I also love it, but interestingly I'm beginning to think I like the look of two-tone more. They pop. I'm still coveting the Datejust.

I'm sorely tempted to flick the DD and go back a step.

I do like the DD but it's a hell of a lot of wonga to tie up in a watch. I feel conflicted because I'm worried that if I part with it I'll regret it - I won't be getting a second suck of the sav from my AD if that happens - anyone else had this quandary?

From memory thd DJ is a tad bigger with more dial real estate than the DD?

Oh no don't do that. Put the DD40 away for a while and come back to it

I have the DD Olive as well and would not consider this. It's a special watch. If you want a DJ get one but don't sell the DD for it

If you've got a 40mm DD you're beginning to fall out of love with, but are coveting a
TT 36mm DJ, why not kill two birds with one stone & get a Tridor DD36? https://www.chrono24.com/rolex/tridor--imod2766.htm

It depends on your motives. If the DD does not bring you as much joy, as it should, sell it, especially if you have another beautiful Rolex, in mind. Also, you’ll have money to put in the bank. I see no problem with this scenario.

I’d never keep a watch that I wasn’t Gaga over, especially in that price category.

I did the opposite. I enjoyed the Datejust but the look and feel for a DD is special. All precious metal was a big factor.

Your lifestyle will and probably should dictate which watch you want. I personally think you shouldn't do it but everyone has their reasons.

Sounds like $ is more important at this point and you would still enjoy a DJ. Prioritize what’s important and go for it.

No, don’t do this. DD is too special to unload for a TT DJ. The DD can do everything the DJ can with more gravitas.

The owner and wearer of a watch is the one to determine the watch that is more special .

I know, but he doesn’t own a TT DJ and he is asking for opinions.

That's a tough one. That DD is a special one in my eyes but at the same time a lot of money to be tying up if it's not bringing you the enjoyment it once did.

I own both and although I feel the DD40 olive is more special, my DJ41 TT gets more wrist time.

Watches should be about enjoyment IMO and if something in your collection (no matter what it is) isn't giving you that enjoyment anymore, then it's time for it to go.

Personally if I fall out of love with something I rarely (if ever) regret moving it along.

Your watch doesn't excite you as much as it should, then you should probably let it go.

The DD is special and I would not move it. Wear it and enjoy. Go find a semi-vintage 36mm TT Date Just on jubilee and add it to the collection.

That's a killer DD combo you have there. I'd give it more time before moving it along. A DD and DJ are very similar as far as the position they take in a collection. I'd keep the DD

Anyone Gone From a DayDate back to a Datejust?

I have a silver DJ41 (fluted dial, jubilee), which I love. But one thing does bother me a tiny little bit. It’s not a major thing.

However, one of my neighbors has a yellow gold DayDate 40 with the champagne dial. So when I’m at his house, I feel like he won the gold medal and I won the silver medal. Now I only wear my Sub or GMT if I know he’s going to be around. I know. It sounds like I’m being silly. Otherwise, I love my DJ.

Personally I wouldn’t. That is a hell of a nice DD… however. If it’s just not checking the boxes you feel that it should, there’s no reason to be bound to it either. It’s your watch and lifestyle. You know what you desire.

If I was in your state of mind ("a lot of cash tied up to the DD, smallish dial, not as much pop as TT"), I'd get rid of it and buy a TT DJ.

Yes, Day-Date is the King and Datejust is just a prince.

My first Rolex was a DJ.
While now own a DD40, I have an SS DJ on order right now.
Wouldn’t trade my DD at all.
Just want something less flashy for some occasions.
