I personally trade my 116 white for the new 126. Couldn’t be happier. In white the old 116 is more bold but next to a white 126 looks less refined to me in person and in hand. I didn’t like it at first but in person it totally changed my mind
You highlight a nice added feature of the silver rings around the subdials of the black 126. As far as the white dials comparison, does the “refinement” of the 126 mean it’s less sporty to you?
In pics, I really dislike the new thin subdials, which is why I’m leaning black, but I find myself warming to the white 126 when I see certain wrist shots. Your comparison picture is very helpful in showing the difference in character.

This whole "more refined" is something you see repated all over social media as well. I don't know who originally coined the phrase with regard to the 126500, but I see it in every post comparing the 116500 to the 126500. It is not some that are calling it "more classy", some calling it "more refined" and some calling it "more delicate" or whatever, which to me says that there are some level of parroting in it.

That being said, it is not nessacarily because I think they are wrong, but if I want refined or classy I'm going for a Calatrava, a Lange or the new 1908. For a Rolex sports watch, I want....sporty?

So I spent long time studying, trying on, differentiating between 116520, 116500 and 1126500, black or white, and I’ll be honest whichever I picked I would have been happy with - but that’s me, white dial is my favourite out of all three models, the 116520 I would have took the Zenith one, but the white contrast with black bezel helps on this as it does feel smaller than my other Rolexes but not too small, I have 16cm wrist, refined is an odd term, I’d just simplify it as different.
There’s a real charm to historical feel to the Daytona, and if the question was originally asked to decide which one to buy, it really does need to be tried on, read up, watch videos before deciding on the right watch .. I love mine, feels incredible on ..

I've always preferred the black dial regardless of the reference. It just looks better to me.

For me the black dial reminds me more of a sub and I think would be less flashy or eye catching. VS the white dial thats a bright white with great contrast on the black sub dials. Personally I would go with the white dial over the black as I like brighter dial watches in general. Used market has the black dials 5-10k less than the white. If your getting it from the AD get the one you want or whats offered lol. But greymarket I mentally hate paying over msrp for anything in life so I wouldnt buy either. But if I did it would be the black dial to spend less on something I could have got for less if I just wated. But you do you!

A lot of you prefer the 116500 white and 126500 black.
I do think the 126500 white looks much better than 116500 white (the subdials on the 116500 are very thick in comparison to the 126500 and even more noticeable on the white dial as the subdials are black).
For the black dial the differences in 116500 vs 126500 are less visible.
Imho the winning combo is 116500 black and 126500 white.

I prefer the black Daytona. Find it more interesting and a tiny bit classier, although both are stunners.

126 white is not as photogenic but details in person are excellent. 116 white is quite possibly the most photogenic watch of all time. 126 white is my pick.

I like the black personally, but the white sells for a higher price in the secondary market. If you're looking at it for an "investment" go white.

If I had the opportunity to get one at retail (which I know I never will), I would get the black, it think it looks more elegant.

I loved my 116500 white but always felt the bezel was tacked on and not a part of the watch. I liked the wild circus like contrast. With the new 126 I didn’t like the bezel ring either in pics. We were all so used to seeing a ceramic Daytona like this for years so we were used to it. then seeing the 126 in person totally swayed me. The ring makes it a more cohesive design and not an afterthought. Instead of the black contrasting more against the 116 white dial, it now complements the 126 white dial. The new bezel ring thins out the black bezel just a little to flow better overall. The thinner sundial rings are way more elegant to me. The fat rings now don’t look good to me. That’s what I mean by more refined. I debated the trade for 2 weeks. 2 visits to the dealer. Now as an owner for 6 weeks I like it even more. Absolutely no regrets. My mom has a 116 white. That size is good for her. My dad has a 116500 black and I’m trying to get him to trade as the new black universally is agreed to be a “better” update. When I saw his 116500 black last week, the black bezel matches the black dial better than the white but the new 126 ring is a very nice feature that I now love more.

Well stated. 116 white pops more in pictures vs 126 white. 126 white in person is nicer to me

I was trying to get my dad to update his 116 black to the new 126. I like the new classic sticks and chrome around the subdials on the 126 black. I am interested in keeping the old case shape in the family, but my new 126 white is swaying me to change his. When I showed him pics of new 126 black he couldn’t tell the difference. He’s a very casual watch wearer, not a “watch guy”
I’m probably going to return to this discussion and see if he’s interested again.

if i had to pick one that is more versatile i would say black, but i don't think there's a big difference there

personally i prefer black a little more, though i would be very very happy with either of them to say the least

Thanks! I think you and I had commented back and forth a few times about daytona's. I was originally going to to get a TT daytona, but the wife convinced me that I wouldnt be truely happy without the White dial 116500ln...so I pulled the trigger last week. I am picking the watch up next week when I travel, will post pictures of it along side my Ed White once I have it.
