1908 configurator misspelling?

I was browsing the 1908 Configurator (the new blue platinum is 🔥 ) and noticed the spelling of “matte” without the “e.” Is that a European or alternative spelling of the word?

According to Merriam-Webster, 'matte' is most common, but 'matt' and even 'mat' are acceptable.

…don’t get me started on why you crazy Americans spell it ‘color’ when it’s actually ‘colour’

Matt is the normal English spelling.

Is matte American? Normally you guys lose letters - I always wondered what happened to them. Math, color, favorite, mustache, aluminum.

Typically, we do use matte. I was thinking the same, though in my mind, you guys usually add letters, as in colour.
