I don't like chamfers, look cheap and dressier to me, I like bold and sporty watches.

Tudor chamfers are all machine cut and finished, so while it gives a different look, it is not any more expensive or time consuming to make. It is all aesthetic only. Rolex makes over 1.2 million watches a year and there is nothing that's hand made. On the other hand, AP RO and Patek Nautilus cases are hand polished and chamfered - " It all begins with cases and bezel being cut straight from blocks of metal —stainless steel, yellow gold, rose gold, white gold, or platinum—, then the holes of the bezel are drilled, cases and bezels are inspected, then polished and chamfered by hand. Love the chamfers on Tudor, definitely one of the things that made me fall for the BB58 the second it was on my wrist. I wish Rolex would move back in that direction. But I’m sure that’s unlikely.
These days I’m more of a Tudor fan. I prefer the chamfered cases, thinner lugs, aluminum bezel inserts, and domed crystal. Add in the ridiculous Rolex “wait lists” and 32XX movement issues and I’m happy sticking with my BB58. |
