Wow in 73’?! The link to cancer was established in the 60s!! Surprising, but awesome nonetheless ;)

Ahhh yes, societal norms and how things change over time. It'll also hold smaller cigars and cigarillos :)

Some rolling tobacco and cigarette papers perhaps. Maybe the phrase has been lost in translation over time:
Rolex intended it to be “Box for papers Bro!” |

Upon reading the title, I thought this was going to be another name game for the black and gray bezel GMT…

This is probably the reason for the dimensions of the box. Come to think of it, it really does look like something that could have been used for this purpose at the time. Practically, it was a kind of "gift" for the watch, which was not a junk packaging, but a practical thing. And from this point of view, it is still more practical than the case of umbrellas, hats, etc. which are given for free nowadays. It was a nice fit for a toolwatch, as it is a kind of "tool-box" and actually practical for anything to store. What follows, that it was NOT designed to keep your watches in a box, but to wear it, and use the box to store something else. |

Times change, watching movies from the 70's/80's its shocking to see all the smoking, like even doctors in hospitals.

In ‘73, they should have suggested to use it as a stash box.

I love everything about this and seeing a different culture of ours and how things were marketed. Such cool history.

I would argue that coffee and cigarettes were largely responsible for the productivity of American from the 50's to the 80s. If you've ever worked with a "coffee and cigarettes" person you know they're basically an unstoppable freight train that hardly eats. I also think it had a hand in keeping people skinny back then.

Agree on both fronts. My grandfather used to smoke and often worked long hours with a meal break. He said smoking stifled his appetite. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Clever and the perfect way to take your smokes to the restaurant, indoors of course.
