Awesome post. I appreciate the value of that watch, but it is too much blue there. I truly believe that if the dial was black, it would be a much better deal. Just my opinion.

I am in love with my smurf, and my subc. I have a few other models: Daytona’s, presidential, date just.... but when all is said and done, it’s sub that won my heart. Smurf when I go to the office or dress up. Weekend work and horsing around it’s a switch the the subc. I guess when you try the rest and discover the best, you go with it

Icon12 WTH. “wrist-bony...?”

I have some sound physical rationale as to why I bought and SOLD the Smurf twice!

The Smurf lured me in with its Blue Shimmer, PCLs and Stealth-mode

It pushed me away due to the weight while running or active sports and how it laid on my wrist

Let me qualify that it wasn’t the weight really, it’s that I don’t have a lot of meat/fat in that location so if it wasn't fitted tight, it would rock around on my arm. Plus it also had the sharp edges.

For me a RG Daytona works for the Sport PM Mode

My SS Black Sub is not as beautiful but he does everything well and doesn’t ever yell at me for being wrist-bony...

While it’s not for me, I love reading threads like those: watch lovers sharing their passion, giving us the “why” this particular reference resonates so strongly. The way I see it, you’ve lucked out. You found, and still enjoy, your grail.

Congrats! Enjoy it! And thank you for sharing your story with us!!

It is the only modern sub I would consider wearing, but I don't like it near enough to consider a purchase. Especially since it has limited use, to me.

I know this has been discussed a bit in the forum but not much since I’ve started posting. I’m really loving this watch but I’m conflicted about some dial variations between the smooth/flat blue dial and the sunburst dial.

I’ve had experiences with various Rolex models where I felt strongly about them one way (either liked or wasn’t necessarily as fond of) but felt a completely different way the second I put it on. Also, being educated and informed doesn’t hurt the cause either. Can anyone offer any info or experiences on this topic? Or the smurf in general.

The 116619 Smurf is only available with the flat dial. There isnt a sunburst white gold submariner

Subs are such amazing versatile watches that may be the only watch someone needs.

I see the Submariner as the iconic 911, the date black might be the Carrera S and the Smurf the turbo, everyday super car.

The only minor issue I have with the smurf are the PCLs. Other than that, perfect!

A black sub will have to do for now, but one day I will get my smurf!

I do agree with a lot of this thread. I like the blue better than the green, and love the white gold...but the polished center links bug me a bit...especially when fingerprinted or scratched. Love the Smurf though.

So it's time for a little controversy. I decided to open this topic to share with you some reasons that lead me to find the Smurf the best watch in the world.

First, in my view, the submariner is Rolex's biggest classic. I know, I know, many will say it's the Daytona or the Day-Date or this or that. But in my opinion it's the Submariner, the watch used by James Bond. Also, in my experience, every time I mention the Rolex name in some casual conversation to someone not into watches is the image of the Submariner that comes to mind.

So, for the simple fact that, in my opinion, being the Submariner the classic Rolex watch, this makes it the most iconic watch in the world, or at least quite high at the top. It is the archetype of the watches.

It can be used for all activities, from the deepest dives to the black tie dinners. Just look at this ad:

So where does smurf come in at all?

In my opinion, the Smurf is the submariner for the WIS. The fact that it is in white gold and the blue dial and bezel adds a touch to the most iconic of the watches, turning it into a real piece of connoisseur.

The way i see it, is the most iconic watch in the world with a little twist, made specially for those who knows.

I know that many at this point should be cursing me on the grounds that a diving watch should be made of steel, but truth be told, who uses these watches nowadays as a real tool of work? And even if they did, the Smurf retains all the features of the Steel Submariner.

Also, wearing a PM Rolex gives you a special feeling, the WG has a warmer tone than steel and the heft makes you notice that the watch is there in your wrist all the time. Being in WG is a big plus for me, making it more discreet.

All the above added to the fact that it is an extremely wearable watch in everyday life, not drawing unwanted attention, make the Smurf, in my opinion, the best watch in the world.

Keep in mind that this is only my opinion.

lol i was just reading this thread and when i scrolled down to that group photo my 3 year old son jumped up and said dad that blue one is the best one!

There is the 116659 SABR which is a white gold sub with blue sunburst dial (and a lot of gems too!):

Beautiful watch. A bit too much blue for my taste. I will be all over a SS Sub with black dial or sunburst dial and that beautiful blue bezel you´ve got in that Smurf, but I am afraid that is a ways off.

The Smurf is a perfect all-around watch. Works hard and plays hard. I never feel the need to switch watches to fit a certain occasion or activity.

The blue bezel and dial shifts color in the light, so does the glorious white gold. Looks like SS in the sun, but in the evening the gold tones come out. It's subtle ever changing appearance is magical!
