Explorer 16570 Overhaul & Dial Replacement

I had some issues with changing the time on my 16570 a month back so I dropped it off at the service center. I'm told they will do a complete overhaul for $800 and replace the dial & hands for an additional $550 if I want.

The lume has always been weak on this watch, so if they replace the dial and hands, will this improve the lume?

Also, after dropping this off at the Rolex Service Center, I realized I still have it under warranty with Crown & Caliber. Do you think it would be best to just have Rolex service it rather than Crown & Caliber? I'll end up paying roughly $1300 out of pocket, but it may be better. I'm not sure that's why i'm asking this board.

Thanks for any help or thoughts on this matter. Aside from a new Tudor BB58, this is the only Rolex I own, and want to be sure I'm doing the right things.

The major value in older Rolex watches is in the originality of the dial and hands, as long as they are sound.

Watches do not have brilliant lume, so it is unlikely that you will see much improvement. If it is an older tritium dial, it is likely no longer working. If it is a Luminova dial, a new dial will be the same, it does not become weak over time.

I would say that if you have a still-in-effect warranty from Cown & Caliber, it's your call. I would think, however, that if it didn't last through the warranty, perhaps an RSC service would be the better choice- unless you are counting pennies.

Thanks for your reply. It's from 1999, so not tritium. I believe it's Luminova.

Good point regarding servicing it through RSC over Crown & Caliber. What you mentioned pretty much echoed my thoughts. However, I did just buy a Tudor BB58, so not exactly counting pennies, but watching them a little closer than usual. I'll probably just end servicing through RSC. I'm sure they do more than Crown & Caliber.
