5980 blue dial vs 5131r

Looking to consolidate a few of my pieces (Rolexes mostly- Hulk, Pepsi, Batman, Red Sub) into one 'big' piece.

Thinking of a couple of options that are already discontinued that I have always wanted, the main two being:
1. 5980/1A-001 - Blue dial (Classic blue dial)
2. 5131r (doesn't need explaining, an enamel world time must be in my collection)

Perhaps as context, the other pieces in my collection include:
5990 (Steel grey dial), 5205 (Slate dial), 5164 (Steel), AP ROO Navy, 116500ln (White dial)

Would love to hear everyone's feedback!

Voted 5980 - favorite of all my Nautilus pieces.

Would be a great counterpart if you keep the gray 5990

Prices seem to have settled on the 5980 the past few weeks to a more comfortable place. Might be a good time find one.

Get both and dump the 5990.

If you have not seen the 5980 watches in person, try and see the 5980/1A and the 5980/1AR blue dials. There is a big difference.

I remember 10 yrs ago, the 5980/1A was being sold at a discount at ADs and I remember seeing all 3 dial colors available for sale at one AD. Certainly times have changed since then...

The enamel dial WT is a collector's watch and probably more of a safe queen. You can wear the 5980/1A more as a daily watch if you want.

I was in a similar position about 7 years ago and traded multiple pieces for a blue 5980/1A as it was always one of my grail watches. In short order, I felt underwhelmed and the white mono-counter chrono reminded me of a CD which optically bothered me. As the aforementioned noted, the brighter blue dial on the 1AR is spectacular if you like a two tone watch. Ultimately the 5980/1A I purchased made it less than 60 days and I traded up from there. On the hunt now for a 5712/3712 to scratch my nautilus itch again. B

I'm surprised the votes for the 5980. I love the 5980 but 5131 is a special watch, 5980 is a sports chrono. It's one of the few watches in my collection I'll never sell

Thanks all for your input, as always they are much appreciated.

After considering all the opinions here, going out and trying both, a surprising third choice presented itself.

Will hopefully be making an incoming thread later this week!

To add to my love for the enamel, when I would wear my 5711 prehype, patek sales people say nice watch and that's about it. When I would wear the 5131, one sales guy said holy f is that the enamel
