Opinions on trading exp1 > exp2 polar

I currently have a sub, Pepsi, and 39mm Explorer 1. I like the Explorer 1 as it is different than the rest of my collection and understated but ever since getting the Pepsi I’m really enjoying the pop of color and some other than a black dial would also be nice to have. Toying with the idea of trading it or selling.

Obviously we have our own tastes just looking for input and opinions bouncing some ideas around.

Thanks!

So many watches that work here. Depending on what you want and the need to trade or sell the Explorer before you move on your options are wide open. I like the Polar Explorer II but would also consider an Omega Speedmaster. Some of the selling/trading issues I had early on involved moving a watch for another and then still wanting the watch and buying it back for more than I got for it in the sell/trade. If you can swing it, get your next watch and make sure it works before moving out of the Explorer. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

I had basically the same references you had and flipped the Explorer for the Polar and never looked back. It’s still part of my smaller collection now.

Good luck and here’s some inspiration.

I was not enamored of the Polar once I finally got it. A lot of people consider the 39mm Explorer to be something special. I would recommend waiting until you are absolutely sure.

I own both - tough for me to pick a favourite as they’re obviously so different.

I like the Polar because the dial is so fresh & crisp and the pop of orange is different to everything else I own. It’s a bit chunky and feels sporty.

Explorer on the other hand is subtle, super comfortable on the wrist and flies completely under the radar, whilst still delivering everything you’d expect from a Rolex.

There’s a time and place for both, so if you can, I’d suggest adding the Polar rather than trading out your Explorer.

Agreed. I think there's actually a better case for the Exp with your collection, IMO. And that's coming from one of the biggest EXP2 fans on the forum.

If the size works for you, the polar Explorer II is a great watch. With so many dark dial watches, it adds a bit of pop to the collection.

I have both and they wear so different that I would recommend both. Post #5 says it well.

I’d keep the Explorer! There is a “coolness” factor to that watch, that the Explorer ll lacks. If you want to add the polar, I’m down with that…

It's understandable that you're considering trading or selling the Explorer 1 to explore different options. Ultimately, it's all about personal preference and what brings you joy when you look at your collection.

Keep the 39mm Explorer 1.

Add a 16570 Polar (40mm).

Two of my favorite SS Rolex, and they make a great pair.

What's your wrist size? Ex2 is a significant size jump from the Ex1. However it's a nice transition up a size from your Sub and GMT.

That said, if a 40mm watch is your sweet spot I think you can pull off the Ex2. If 36-39mm is a better range for you, the ex2 might be too big.

Otherwise it's a fantastic reference.

If you let that Explorer go I think you’ll regret it down the road.

I must agree with Kat, the Explorer has something that the II lacks. Add, don’t trade would be my advice too.

If I had to choose between the Explorer I or the II, it would be the II (in polar or black).

I appreciate all the opinions that’s for sure! And I do like the idea of the 16570 Polar I had considered it previously but the prices for used vs new are always tough for me to swallow however I think that might be an avenue worth exploring further, pun intended. As it is different enough from all the rest and not a maxi case. I agree there is a certain charm to the simplicity of the exp 1 and ultimately adding instead of replacing would be the best option but we shall see.

That in itself raises more questions than answers, SEL, hallow end links, lug holes, no lug holes, oh boy

I went with a G serial, so no lug holes, 3186 movement and engraved rehaut, all with the 5 digit case. A great combination of neo vintage with some modern touches. I highly recommend it.

I love the polar Explorer II, personally — it's such a distinctive watch in the Rolex catalog for so many reasons: white dial on a sports watch, bigger 42mm case, great pop of color with the orange GMT hand. It's unique in a way that most sport Rolexes aren't, and I think is a great option for diversifying your collection a bit.
