Just Traveled to Switzerland - Availability

I just returned from Switzerland after traveling there
The week of April 25,2024

I went to stores in Zurich, Lucerne, Zermatt .(mostly Bucherer)

I didn’t see any stainless available

Zurich had yellow and white gold submariners and full rose gold GMT II.
But all stores were filled with precious metal Sky Dwellers
All types from full gold to oysterflex

Zermatt had a 2008 Daytona Leopard for 120,000 Swiss Francs

I’ve just come back from Zurich.

Same situation as UK really - only PM models readily available but they’re not my thing. SS exhibition only. Tried to bag an SD43 at the airport, but that was a “no”. Which was the response I was expecting TBH!

Am considering going to Geneva in the next two months. From a watch standpoint, what is there to do in Geneva? Of course all the big names have their headquarters there, but assume all of those are off limits. Anything else watch related to do in Geneva?

It’s probably harder to acquire a SS Rolex in Switzerland, than anywhere else, unless you live there.

Yes, definitely the Patek museum, as already posted. And a walk up and down the Rue du Mont-Blanc, where there is an amazing collection of watch stores, used to be worthwhile. Not watch-related, but at the northern end of the same Rue du Mont-Blanc, near the railway station Cornavin, is a famous restaurant, the Café de Paris, well-worth visiting if you like top class beef (entrecôte), their speciality! I grew up in Geneva, and we always took friends who were visiting Geneva there, and were never disappointed. And it used to be reasonably priced, too. But I haven´t been since before the pandemic, so hope it´s still worth a visit! Anyway, enjoy Geneva if you do go, it´s a beautiful city in a fabulous location!

Patek Philippe Museum is a must.

If you have time, you can rent a car (I believe there is a train too) and go to Le Brassus to visit AP's museum (you need to book that in advance to have a slot). It's absolutely incredible.

Watch Shops all around the city, + the MB&F store which has some sort of mechanical art.

Try to contact some manufactures, some do visits sometimes. For instance, you should try to call/reach out to Vacheron Constantin, they used to do Manufacture visit if you ask them in advance. Even if you're not client. Not sure if they still do it but it's worth a try.

For restaurants, there are many great options as already mentioned.

Patek Museum is a must even if one doesn’t like the brand. Make an appointment with Patek Salon and mention that you want to see rare handcrafts. I missed on those as it’s a separate appointment.

Man I loved my time in Switzerland. Went in 2022 for first time, didn’t find any watches at any boutique in any city��. AP museum was a far better experience than PP. it’s a guided tour and the campus is beautiful. Worst part is getting there though.

Also, what’s up with the food in Switzerland? Absolutely atrocious. Not too sure about Geneva since I was there only a few hours for PP museum, but Zurich was horrendous for food

The reservations are easy to get even a week before your visit (at least as of last July). However, you really should do a guided tour with one of the English speaking docents. These reservations are much harder to get and you may want to book at least a month in advance.

We had some excellent meals in Geneva. Indian food one night. Bistro food for lunch a couple of days. Even had lunch at the table next to the Omega Boutique manager one afternoon.

Don't need an overly fancy hotel (just there to sleep). Are there any affordable areas in Geneva to stay in? Something that is not too far from the train station?

Won't have a car, so probably will have to rely on bus or feet. Assume the bus is pretty decent?

Public transport in Geneva is excellent, and puts many other cities to shame. There is a very comprehensive network of buses and trams. Unless you plan on taking some trips outside Geneva you don´t really need a car. Parking is a nightmare!

I'm going in late June, will have a car. I assume there's no chance of snagging a Rolex SS model, and even then, really no chance of getting a VT refund upon flying home from FRA.

I just spent a few days there. Availability is slim to none in any of the Bucherer’s I stopped in.
In Luzern I was offered a WG skydweller on oysterflex. However I declined as I have a WG Daytona on oysterflex already.
