Three in one!!

I made a quick change on the bezel of my 1675, from wine/black to all black.

Ed you were right, the all black is stealth and very cool. It is also Andies favorite of the three choices that I now have!!

Cool pics, Daren.

I remember the very first time you started to post pics, they were so crappy, I had to laugh and laugh at the quality (?) and blurriness of them all.

You seem to have come a long way since. Well done, pal!!

Thanks Roger and Ed, I have fallen in love with the black bezel. I was worried that it would be like the SD too much, but it is not even close.

The biggest problem right now is that I only seem to be wearing this one since I got back from vacation. The YM and SD are getting dizzy on the damn winder.

How dare you neglect the SD?

Roger I will go one further, I almost traded it away this morning for an IWC. The deal fell through and I think that I am happy, I'll let you know soon.

Hi guys;

I just last week changed the Pepsi insert on my GMT to the all black and I really couldn't be happier. It makes a bigger difference than you would think and is much more sophisticated.

By the way, this is my first post on this forum after deciding to vacate another group well known to many of you. Personal attacks of other members and intentionally hurtful remarks toward whole groups of people are entirely unnecessary and certainly not enjoyable. This is a watch forum. A place to share knowledge and experience with like-minded individuals who also want to have a little fun along the way.

I see many familiar names and feel I'm back on friendly ground.

Welcome aboard, Richard. Great to have you over here. And I must say, you have exhibited outstandingly good taste in switching to the black bezel. Well done, my man.

Thanks for the welcome, Daren;
I've missed your insightful comments and enthusiasm. Now I see you've picked up your toys and moved to this sandbox. This can only be to everyone's benefit since you've had so much practice in the sand.

Richard,

The bunker is not a problem, I feel like I can make 6 out of 10, now put me off the front of the green with a chip that my two year old could hit and it is ugly!!

I did not leave by choice (see in the open forum, spill em JJ) but all things happen for a reason. I still have most of the same great friends around and we are not always looking over our shoulders. Stop bye as much as you can, you know most all the guys here!!

But tell me when you got the GMT? And how is that love affair going with it?

Thanks guys ---

I appreciate you remembering me, Daren. I picked up the GMT-II on a cruise I took of the Southern Caribbean in April. I bought it in St. Thomas at the largest AD in the U.S. Virgin Islands, AH Riise. This is one VERY busy and popular store when the ships are in port. I was quite surprised to find their inventory levels in Rolex sport watches was very low. They simply could not keep them in stock, especially the SS models. I had been forwarned not to expect any discounting. If they didn't sell the watch to me the guy behind me at the counter would buy it.

Even so, I found the staff to be knowledgable, patient and very personable. They did end up pricing the watch at 10% below MSRP on the mainland where no one was budging on price. They went out of their way, even to another store, to get all three bezel inserts for me to look at in person. They promised sizing (an extension link was needed for my 8 1/4" wrist --- at least something is that big ), insert of my choice and all documentation before I left the store. They came through perfectly. In short I was VERY pleased with AH Riise and their customer focused attitude.

At the end of my cruise I had to make a minor decision. Do I claim the watch on my Custom's Declaration or, as some suggested, just wear it and cover up the boxes/papers in my luggage. I guess I just don't have the balls to be dishonest. I listed my Rolex as a purchase with the correct price. Of course, I was asked to go to a separate inspection room on disembarkation. I'd already figured with my exemptions I would probably owe $200 - $250 in duties. I had all my documentation ready along with a smile on my face for the officer and in conversation mentioned that this was a birthday present to myself. He offered me a seat (!) and excused himself. When he came back I was introduced to the Sergeant who wished me a belated birthday and said "Why don't you pay $60 and we'll call it even."

Moral of the story (you did ask for the long version didn't you?) --- some people have to take a lot of crap in their job so never underestimate the value of a smile.

Great post and story Richard!! IMHO you did the right thing claiming it, and in the end it worked out just fine after all. Glad you are loving it, I know you were patient long enough.

If you vouch for him, Daren, he can't be all good. So he's right where he belongs - with the rest of us misfits.
