Icon20 Very rare usage

Hi all,

New here, so I have tried searching the forums, but couldn’t find my specific scenario, so figured I’d ask the experts.

I have 3 watches. YMII, Daytona and Datejust.

I find myself wearing my Apple watch daily (job purposes), so my rollies just sit for months at a time, sometimes longer. I’d say my average wear is like once every 2-3 months for the YMII (when I have to dress nice lol) and literally once a year for the datejust (just for 1 specific work meeting). The Daytona literally just sits in my safe as I bought it as an investment more than anything. Currently, they are not on winders and I manually wind when/if I wear. I was recently told that was the worst thing to do, but I know it’s kind of a mixed review..

Should I have all 3 on a winder? Just the YMII on a winder and let the Datejust (wear once per year) and Daytona (never wear) sit in the safe and manually wind when/if I do wear them?

My concern is that if I have the Datejust and Daytona on a winder forever on ever isn’t that worse?

Thanks so much in advance for any and all help!

Sincerely appreciated.

No winder needed here. Buy a nice watch roll for them and wind when you wear them.

No need for a winder. Disappointing that you can’t find time to wear them more. Life is short.

You should have cashed in on your “investment” last year. If I were you, I’d sell them all. Doesn’t seem like you’re really that into watches. Use the money toward something you enjoy more.

Complications

Only issue without a WW is if you have a complication that's hard to set - I've a PP that is a real pain to set the moon phase and I keep it on a winder as it takes forever to reset..

This!

And just wear your watches from time to time. Why not enjoy them?

Might as well just sell them. Why keep in a safe?

The window on your investment is closing soon. Curious what your job purpose is that a phone/tablet/laptop/desktop doesn’t cover.

Who told you that??

I manually wind mine quite often. I've never thought that it could damage the watch. I'm sure they are very well engineered and that winding them poses little to no meaningful concern

Meh. Just enjoy wearing at work whatever watch you enjoy most.

I can’t imagine why it is essential to wear an Apple Watch but if that is the case I would sell at least 2 of your Rolex watches. If not the case.then wear and enjoy the Rolex watches.

I agree just sell the watches and put the money to much better use in something you will use and enjoy more.

I’d just give them a manual wind once in a while.

On second thought, I’d probably just sell them, since you don’t wear them

If you don’t use them for centuries, the worst thing that will happen is a lubricant will try out. If they are consistently running for centuries, the pieces of metal will wear down, the mechanical parts will wear down. Anything that has any kind of friction will wear down. it’s obvious when you draw it out to centuries or millennia, just scale that down to 10 years

Watch is the most shitty investment, the same as investing in lv bag or gucci kicks.

Wear and enjoy or don’t purchase at all

. . .
rollies

Whoever told you such a thing is likely repeating something they heard, which is complete nonsense.

Wind them when you wear them, that's what that windey thing on top is for. A watch not running is incurring zero wear, a watch on a winder is incurring continuos wear.

I had my Daytona serviced a couple of years ago at an authorized repair shop. They asked if I leave my watch on a winder. I told them no, I don't own a winder.

They told me not to use a watch winder. If you don't wear the watch, just leave it alone. When you do decide to wear it, just give it about 30-40 winds on the crown and you're good to go. Keeping your unworn watch on a winder only breaks down the lubricants on the components and causes you to have to service your watch more often.

So basically, watch winders are an unnecessary expense for an already expensive hobby. It's just simple to twist the crown a few times just to get the watch going, set the time, then allow your body movements to keep it running.

In answer to the question that was not asked, sell at least 2 of your watches.
