The mkii 39mm Explorer - show us your 39!!

I don't understand why Rolex made the 40mm variant. The 39 mkii is king.

They should just have one variant rather than adding another size.. It feels a little bit.. Ummm.. Strange.. A little bit like the smaller sized Tudor subs...

Based on this picture, I think the 36 would have suited you better...

Why?? Lugs don’t extend the wrist and you can see one link either side. Plus phone camera takes pics out of proportion.

I'm not too bothered about the size being a few mms here or there, but none of the recent modern explorers have matte dial, which is a deal breaker for me. I also prefer "Explorer" text at the bottom half of the dial.

Overall, I'm happy with mine! 🤗

I guess there’s something for everyone. Your watch looks great though.

The 39mm was the sweet spot in my opinion.

I do agree that some wrists would complement the 36mm size much more elegantly

As for sizing, it made a lot of sense in my mind getting rid of the 39 in favour of the 40 so that the spread between the sizes was significant enough. This is more inline with the 36 and 40/41 offerings of other models.

@Buchmann69: Is that jubilee bracelet from the current GMT lineup? Looks great! Does the lug width match with the bracelet?

You 39 fanbois sound like you are trying to convince yourselves.

That matte dial is just amazing, for me this reference is the best of the Explorers.

Blasphemy? Maybe. But I love it. 39mm on a GMTc bracelet.

I’ll be curious when someone here can post caliper measurements of the 36, 39 and 40.

I think the 39 is a nice size, too. Looks good on you.

My only guess was the 39 may not have been a good seller? I was actually a little shocked to see a larger size introduced this year to go with the 36, TBH.

What better way to sell all those left over 39s then to call it 40, now??

I little bit like a watered down reference?

Definitely takes some clout away from the Explorer 1, and places it into the DJ / OP category.

They would never offer two sizes of the Sub or Daytona.

The 39mm and 40mm Explorer thread aka Dinner Plate wrist shots.

That's the reason I passed on it at the AD, the dial felt too large and empty.
