Has anyone consolidated their collection?
Has anyone here ever sold off all of (or substantially all of) their collection to finance 1-2 timepieces? What did you sell and what did you end up with?
Were you happy with your decision? End up regretting it? Buy back a bunch of the sold pieces? I’m not seriously considering this (yet), but it has crossed my mind. My collection is now at a point where I could trade for a Datograph, a Patek sports model or some similarly sought after piece (perhaps with some cash in the deal)

Yes, I’m seriously considering consolidation; just a matter of which two or three pieces to give up.

Yep sold all my watches(6) in 2016 to consolidate the funds into a Platona. No regrets at all.Since then a 5711R was offered by my local AD and had to beg, borrow and steal to buy it but again no regrets, and just added a GS white birch this year so watch numbers are creeping up again!

Yes I consolidated with zero regrets.
I sold a DSSD JC, Hulk and Bluesy to fund a WG Sub. Zero regrets. Went from 4 to 2 Rolex's. WG and then a black date Sub that will be gifted to my son upon college graduation so I will truly only have 1 Rolex the WG. I wear it every day. |

Yeah I sold all but one of my watches just a little over a year ago. I kept my Tudor Heritage Ranger. I just wanted to start fresh. I began with a DSSD D-Blue that I’ve worn everyday since last December. The BLNR is my favorite of all the GMTs so that’ll be next and then I’ll go on from there…

JC and a Batman sounds like a nice two piece combo. What’s your wrist size? How do you find the JC as a daily? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

7.5 inch wrist. I like it fine as a daily. The size and weight are a non issue once it’s on my wrist. Now obviously I notice a difference when I switch to my Ranger or Speedmaster, but I chose the JC as the cornerstone of my new collection and I’m very happy with it. I never get tired looking at that dial or through the domed crystal!

Just saw a review online of the white birch. Heard the GS is very nice and needs to be experienced in person. Wish I had a GS boutique near me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well worth viewing GS in the flesh-you can appreciate the quality much more than looking at photos.

I traded a YG Daytona on strap, SS Submariner Date, Breitling Chronomat on bullet bracelet and a Eberhard Tazio Nuvolari chronograph for a YG Daytona with a Paul Newman dial back in 1999. I do regret not keeping the two Rolex and just working out the YG Daytona some other way!

I have been absolutely thinking of this. Tired of the whole Rolex thing and my AD has been really good to us. I’m waiting or should I say hoping for a Meteorite GMT and Blue Sky D. Those will be lifetime keepers as will my Hulk, Gilt 5513 and Daytona those are untouchable. But everything else is on the bubble. The problem is do I go from one waiting game to another? If I can get a FP Journe Souvrain Chronometre within a reasonable timeframe I’m going that route. I have no idea what the difficulty factor is with these watches. Plan on visiting the local boutique.

The challenge for me at the moment is what would I would be willing to trade... and there lies the rub... consolidating is probably not in my near future. I guess I just need to go buy a couple more $15-20k watches and then use them to consolidate
The Daytona is untouchable because it played an important role in my proposal to my fiance. I also feel like there is more room to run for these in terms of value, shocking as it may seem. The Batman was my first Rolex, and while I don't love the larger modern case size, it is proportional with my 7.75" wrist + I do love the color scheme. It's also the one watch I bought at an AD which has my name on the card. Lot's of reasons to hang onto it. The VC Overseas I absolutely love on the rubber strap. The stainless case with sharp edges of the case and the integrated strap has a really cool aggressive look that is hard to say no to. There are times where this is the only watch in my collection that will do. That said, it's probably tradeable for a higher end watch that scratches the same itch. The Santos and Pepsi I just bought and I suppose are both tradeable without any nostalgic tug to keep them...

Not yet, I only have 2 at the moment. Hoping to add a 3rd in the near future really hoping to get a PM so either a WG or RG DD40 w/ olive or a WG Daytona w/ blue dial. I would consider moving 1 my current 2 (GMTII/HULK) to fund the PM but hopefully won't have to when the time comes.

Sold a used Explorer 114270 and a used Breitling to acquire a used GMT LN knowing that if I missed the Explorer, I could buy one new (whether from AD or reseller).
I realise how much I miss the Explorer so I am on the list for a 124270. |

I've toyed with the idea of keeping my BLNR as an everyday then selling everything else for a Lange or PP but honestly think I would just add more back in after lol

I’ve been thinking of doing this. Unfortunately, I feel as if it happens every few years.
Currently have dd40 yg white Roman’s, rg daytona Chocolate grey sub dials, ss skydweler white dial, ap ro chrino black dial white subs, Panerai 104 and Cartier roadster Looking at trading ap and sky dweller towards and platinum dd40 ice blue but I can’t pull the trigger as I’m afraid of sellers remorse….. |

No, no need for that. I’ve got only one Rolex to obtain and that’s a RG DD, dial color idk know yet- maybe chocolate ?
After that, it’s time to move to the hole trinity.

I sold 4 SS Rolex for a PM GMT. Was a “mistake” for me, got bored with a single watch after a few months. Sold it, used the money for a down payment on a 2nd home and started rebuilding my watch collection again later.

Dam rite !!
I actually did this 2 years ago ...owned about 12 watches (plethora of Seiko divers, GShocks, Oris and a Breitling chrono). Then sold most and bought Omega SMP ..then sold my Breitling and ended up with only 3 watches (GShock, smp and Seiko tuna). Then sold all of it...bought a Garmin Fenix 6 fitness watch (due to medical reasons and the fact I decided to go back to running again). I have the funds from the smp/Tuna in my paypal and on the waitlist for the new ExpII (black dial). To be honest, I'll only wear the Rolex for formal outings or vacations, etc. Since I'm back to running now, I wear my Fenix 24x7 (monitor my pulse Ox at night/stress/recovery etc). Life is more easier than having to stress about which watch I'm going to wear tomorrow/weekend/monday, etc ;). |
