Opinions on owning two modern submariners

I would love to hear the opinions from the forum on having both the 124060 and 126610LN in a single collection.

Personally, I have always loved the aesthetic of of the submariner but I have been polarized by the cyclops and now see beauty in it, as well as functionality in the date window.

However, I can not ignore the fact that these are basically the same watch and wonder if it would be foolish to own both in a collection?

Considering the submariner is the only sports watch that comes with the option of cyclops vs no cyclops, should I keep the submariner and get my cyclops fix on another Model or should both subs stay ?

Thanks !

I would keep the 124060 and try to score a BLNR or a BLRO with the date function.

In your case I would replace the LN with the LV, or look at the GMTs.

I personally have 114060 and 116610LV and both fit perfectly in my collection as they are also quite different.

After owning a variety of subs I settled on the simple 14060m (no date)

I prefer the balance on the dial and also appreciate the simplicity of setting the time when swapping out watches as many of us often do.

I very much agree with you regarding the logic of not owning two or more such similar watches.

In your case I think I’d venture towards a GMT, and one with some color on the bezel

In my collection i have 3 Subs: 126610LV, 16613 and 124060

I'd agree with inadeje and some color on the bezel or a 2 tone if you like.

It’d be one thing if your two Subs were a 1680 and a 124060. Get a Datejust and keep the OG ND Sub.

Only you can make that call. If you think it's foolish, it is. If you don't, it isn't.

I own this pair.

I don't feel foolish at all.

You say you can't ignore it, so maybe you've already answered your own question. I wouldn't be too hasty myself. Maybe give it some time. The right watch has a tendency to make itself known. They could both turn out to be the right watch.

I am a huge Submariner fan and have or have had many - but in each model range, I tend to want the no date, and then a date in anything other than the LN.

From the current range, a 124060 coupled with a LV or two-tone would make more sense to me?

For the date function I'd go with the LV for some variety / color.

Pointless in my opinion. In fact, I happen to think that owning both a Sub Date and GMT are too close also. They all basically have the same case, the same black dials, effectively the same movements and have ceramic bezels. Ok a GMT might have a bit of colour - but colour can be bought in other ways with completely different watches.

If you want your cyclops fix on something else I'd say go Datejust.

I'd keep the 124060 as a plain classic, and add a flash of colour with the date... for me that would be the 126619LB

I’d have an sd43 and then a no date sub.

You need a 3rd. A black dial Submariner and then you’re all set.

I am also on the "keep the 124060" train. It always depends on what else you have in your collection, but if I had your two references, I would swap the 126610 with a GMT for added versatility and another complication.

I think the answer really depends on what your collection looks like. If you possess a small collection, then the answer seems quite simple that you might want to diversify further away from two almost identical watches. If your collection is vast and the other pieces do not overlap one another much, and if funds allows for it, why not?

I mean it depends. If you value versatility or not. I opt for function first and use the date many times each day and can care less what people say or feel about the date window. In a day and age where most use their phone for the time and date, the date adds function to a watch and that’s not a debate. If I valued fashion first I may feel otherwise-I do not. I had at one point a Daytona and sub, which I felt were a very good 2 watch Rolex combo and may be the best Rolex combo out there. But there are too many great watches out there to have 2 subs-that is unless one is simply “collecting” things to have.

No issues owning as may Submariners as you want but it does limit you depending on your funds. I currently have a ND, Hulk and TT Blue. Enough difference for me and if I had to pick it would be the ND. I do like the balanced dial.

Wrong person to ask here but I am a huge fan of the Sub. Just like everything about them. I have owned them all, sold a couple (Hulk and Bluesy) to fund a WG but would collect all the colors if I had the means.

This would be my ideal collection as well but getting an LV seems like an impossible task atm

These are two very different watches to me, despite having a similar DNA.

My issues aren’t so much with submariner line but rather them being two monochromatic divers

+1, well stated. Imho, if you like the look, ruggedness, and functionality of a Rolex Sub, it's totally OK to have more than one (Date and No-Date), and it's definitely OK to own pieces reflecting multiple generations (4-digit, 5-digit, and 6-digit references), as well as pieces consisting of SS, TT, and PM (as your budget allows obviously). And the Sea Dweller models 16600 and 116600 are also completely legit options if you want the date function without the magnifier. Lots to love (and collect) within the Rolex dive watch range.

124060 and 126610LN are two similar. I would rather add a LV on top of no date or a GMT
or a SD43 or a two tones Sub or another Sub from different generation (4 / 5 digits)

I own a 124060. The only subs I would consider adding is either TT or full PM pieces. I would sell the steel date for a GMT like others or add a TT or PM sub date

too redundant for me. I agree with what some others have said, mix in something else with a date function.
