I will definitely try to get one. Hoping one of the Swatch stores here in Seoul will have them at launch.

Interesting as Blancpain‘s slogan was „since 1735 we did no quartz watch and never will“.

It’s a swatch, not a BP. Haha. But yes, a quartz one would be insulting even as a cheap homage.

I am more intrigued by this than when first learning about Omega x Swatch. I respect Blancpain but never had a desire to own one. This makes it a more palatable “foray” even though it’s not a true BP piece. I hope the whole hype demographic doesn’t hit this (as hard) as the moonSwatch.

Looks to be pretty certain that they will offer a watch themed for each of the five oceans.

All year Blancpain has emphasized the four characteristics “every fifty fathoms must have”..if my recollection are correct:

1. Water resistance
2. Automatic winding
3. Timing bezel
4. Lume

I’d expect to see all 4 on this watch

Well, it is Swatch and I've ALMOST bought the Diaphane One a few times. So this new release could be 'more'... and priced accordingly.

I have 0 interest in this but I hope it’s done better than the MoonSwatch fiasco.

That's why i'm thinking higher pricing. Can do more with the timepiece, while higher price might give flippers a bit of pause. The Daiphne did not sell through well at all back in the day.

Of course odds are I could also be wrong. It'll be the same fiasco and flippers will rejoice.

Fiasco is relative. Swatch and omega sure don’t consider it a fiasco. Flippers got hold of some pieces out of the million sold? Sure. Long lines of frustrated people who couldn’t wait a couple weeks until the craze died down. I guess.

But some of us don't live near one of the blessed anointed stores. Have tried a few times during holiday travels with no luck. I gave up, too much hassle for what it is imho.

I was really into getting one when they were first announced but my interest in them is now totally non-existent because of what a headache it became to try and get one. It didn’t help that I watched so many hands-on videos and was left massively disappointed with the quality of the product. I know I shouldn’t have been that surprised because of the price but it definitely seemed like they went too cheap with the materials.

If this is a reasonable size (think skin-diver), has 100+ WR, and is an auto, I'd probably buy.

If they're available.

Funny they missed the summer for a dive watch, though...

The Moonswatch was crazy expensive for what it was (a very flimsy quartz watch with a terrible strap).

Blancpain doesn't have the same name recognition with the masses though, so I can't see there being such a fuss over this.

Well said, yet as i recall there's a saying:

George Carlin — "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups."

One thing is for sure, it'll be interesting to see human Herd Mentality this time around.

May get a little rough unfortunately for Blancpain in the near term?

As a Blancpain owner, I'd like to get a Thrifty Fathoms, but only if: (a) it has reasonable WR; (b) I can get it at retail; and (c) I don't need to stand in line for one. It any of those things are missing, I'm out.

You'll see

1. 30 meter claimed WR.
2. Sistem51 that can't be serviced
3. Bi directional plastic bezel
4. Lume that lasts 3 minutes

This is simply a money grab.

Wow amazing amount of dissent. Look I’m all for tradition - and I understand the swatch history…. But…. My kids (20s) asked ME about the moonswatch- and one of them purchased one. I think whatever draws attention to the next gen benefits everyone. I mean - how many people really know about whitebread watches anyway (?) maybe it sparks an interest in a kid who can’t spend 15k on a watch. BTW I have a FF and love it. Just don’t expect younger folks to be snapping them up.

Im with you on this - there is definitely the increased possibility of sparking the next gen's interest in watches with these more affordable options (the gateway drug so to speak), and maybe some would appreciate more BP timepieces after reading about it more (the brand, the history, the models).

I like blancpain because you didn’t need other people to appreciate it. I’m not sure this will necessarily elevate the brand though.

Biggest question of all. Is it safe to wear FF in London now or will my hand be chopped off in Mayfair? ;)
