Hello guys it came to my attention that someone is trying to buy and sell watches using my name Tony G and emails are coming from : sdVVatches@gmail.com
Please note that: sdwatches@gmail.com is the only email I will use and I will not approach anyone trying to sell watch, if i have something for sale it will be listed in the for sale section Also the only Phone # I use is 619-339-5645 Please be very careful and let's try to keep the net a safe place

Thanks Tony, unbelievable imagination these scumbags have, if only they would use it to do something useful in their lives

A tip from some in the biz - getting your own domain and email is dirt cheap. Makes it real hard to spoof your email address in such a rudimentary fashion.

also it's easy for them to get a .net .biz dot whatever to try to make it look like your domain... so the best thing is to be alert and double check

Have a look : https://www.google.com/work/apps/business/ Also, if they register domain to spoof, you can go after them - they become a stationary target. More protection. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk |

So it would be really hard to register sdvvwatches.com instead of sdwatches.com? Don't think so.

Recently connected my father-in-law with Tony G and completed a fantastic deal with him, and posted about how pleased he was with it in the forum. Today, I got a random solicitation from an email address purporting to be Tony - it’s not, note the “sdVVatches” prefix in the email address. That ain’t Tony, it’s a bad actor trying to leverage Tony’s good name. Not cool. Friendly reminder not to click links in emails from unknown senders and always check the email addresses of senders who communicate with you to verify they are who they appear to be. Also, if you get this type of solicitation outlining a deal that seems too good to be true...the rule is that it definitely is. This communication was a scam attempt, so be on the lookout for this type of crap! |

Yea, I knew it was a reprisal of one of that dirt bag’s “greatest hits,” but when I got it, I figured I’d refresh this thread, since that individual is trotting that scam attempt out again. I rang Tony to let him know it started up again and he was hardly surprised, unfortunately. |

Bill - I get how that scammer was able to lift some tidbit for phishing bait from your TRF post a month ago (about the purchase your F.I.L. made with Tony). But how was he able to get your personal details to send that message? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

And they keep using that same tired email that I started seeing over 6 years ago.
Thanks for the heads up

Well, it seems to be clever use of information contained in my review of my FIL’s purchase, combined with info contained in other posts I’ve made, such as for sale posts, that contain my email address. You can see how the introduction to the email is intended to disarm the email recipient and get them to let their guard down. I can see how someone might get fooled by it, so all the more reason to be vigilant and make sure *all* the details add up - is it real sender, is email address Tony’s (no), is the phone number at the bottom correct (in this case, a San Fran area code for a dude who sells watches in San Diego, so also no), etc. Plus, the message itself was crap, so putting all of that together, it was simply off. I almost mindlessly clicked on the link for the phone number in the email when I called Tony to give him a heads up, but I’m glad I caught myself and avoided that. Unwise to trust links in sketchy emails, that could lead to things that aren’t good. |

Thanks
Yes the phishers craft a little truth to disarm into an otherwise false narrative. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Sounds like a similar approach used by another scammer who impersonated Watches24seven a few years back...

I’ve purchased f/f with Tony here in SD a few years ago - good guy, smart and cautious. Hate to see stuff like this on TRF or anywhere, but as we all know it’s a cold world out on the interwebs. Glad he caught it and posted up here.
