Rolex Service

Just want to find out how often/if ever , you have sent your watch in for the recommended 5 year service?
ps JJ I don't think yours counts as I don't think you've kept a watch long enough.

My 16610 is slightly over five years old and runs about 1/2 sec slow a day.
My father's had hid DJ for 20 yrs and I think it's been serviced twice. When I bought my watch, my AD's father was in the store and he has a 16613 that was 10 yrs old at the time and he never had it serviced. He said it kept fantastic time.
You will get pros and cons on this subject so I guess it's up to you to make the final decision.

That's why I'm asking.
My Air King has been worn almost daily for about 15 years.
It's been everywhere & abused.
Never been in for service ( I can hear the lectures now) and it is still VERY accurate ( about 10 seconds fast a month).

Wow 15 years?

I say if it aint broke, don't fix it.

Some people will say if you let it go that long, when you do get it overhauled it will cost more. But in 15 years that is 3 overhauls. Will the cost to get it overhauled be 3 times a regular overhaul? Even if it is you break even. And I do not think it will cost that much.

I have heard with the new synthetic oils, the 5 year overhaul timeframe can be pushed to about 7 or 8.

I would however get it pressure tested regularly after about 10 years. Maybe even sooner.

I agree about the if it aint broke dont fix it. However, I would get a Rolex certified watch maker examine it for you. Its free to do so (at least here in Toronto it is) and they can check to make sure it is still waterproof and that the gears havent dried out.

I've got a 23 yo TT DJ, a 20 yo TT DJ and a 15 yo YG DD. To the best of my knowledge none has ever been serviced and they all keep great time (within a couple minutes per month). I, too, subscribe to the if it ain't broke don't fix it school.

I dream of the day when I have to take a watch in to have it serviced!!
The longest I've ever had a Rolex was my very first one, the TT DJ, which I used for 10 years and then sold it. Of course, I baby my watches so much that it still looked in excellent shape when I finally sold it.

Perhaps the day will come when I have to service my TT Blue YM....I sincerely hope as do my wife and 2 daughters!!

Yes agree if watch is keeping good time it ain't broke don't fix it.But if it was a sports watch like a Sub,being used for what it was intended for, diving etc. Then I would have it pressure checked yearly, and service as per Rolex 5 yearly.
