Rolex gives a percentage of its profits to the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation. THAT is the charitable entity. The Hans Wilsdorf Foundation is the sole owner of Rolex, but Rolex is absolutely a for profit company and only a percentage of its profits are going back to the foundation. They are paying employees, investing in R&D and capital improvements, investing with their pension fund, and doing everything else that for profit companies do.

It's the exact same as every other big company that also has a charitable foundation they run with profits. General Mills, 3M, Ford, Cargill, thousands of large companies all around the world do the exact same thing, but they are not "non-profit" companies themselves. It's the foundation that does the charitable work. The company makes money and then contributes some of that to their foundations. SOME of it, not ALL of it.

There are no shareholders.

Of course they reinvest, pay employees etc.

But it's not the same as any of those companies.

Let me see if I have this straight.

You want a forum full of people who are frustrated because they can't get a Rolex at list from an AD to boycott Rolex in solidarity with a guy....

....who is buying up loads of Rolexes from a single AD and selling them on to his family and friends....?

Ooooookay....

My long time friend in Europe has been buying like over twenty or so (mainly Rolexes) from one AD over the years. We are talking some serious money: tens of thousands of USD/EUR. He has been also giving watches as presents to people close to him and has helped friends to get their dream watch, list price.
Rolex has been scaring the sh** out of the AD in the last two years in similar ways as we’ve been reading other stories on this forum and watching vids over YouTube: ”you will loose your privilege to sell Rolex watches if any of your clients is flipping hot models…” and all these new rules: ”from now on: only two watches /year /client…”
This AD wrote an email to my friend where they said that they can’t no longer sell Rolex watches to my friend, because he has been buying too many watches from them. What a joke!!! I did see the email and it was hilarious: the AD said that they are afraid of loosing their licence to sell Rolexes, and that my friend has been over the top with his purchases. The tone of the email was nasty and the AD blamed one of his best customers trying to ruin AD’s business. That my friend has been too greed buying all these watches.
My friend has been all the time very open and honest if he’s been buying into his own collection or to his spouse or friend or child. No flipping.
First the AD agreed to sell very willingly and now they are blaming their top client buying too much.
Rolex managed to create fears into the AD’s mind and the AD acted out like a scary child.
And then this silly recent Rolex statement, where this non-profit company lies to us…
All this sh** around the buying experience has ruined the brand called Rolex.
I won’t participate any longer into this R-sh**.
I flipped my Sky-D, I will keep only my D Blue—but not because of the brand, but because of the story of Cameron’s diving.
I bought a new Omega—no longer Rolexes for me.
Rolex can kiss my skinny… you know.
Please share your own bad experiences and join into my boycott.

Didn’t read, but I do see your a new member. Rolex has been around long before you and will be here long after your interest runs out, which I assume will happen when demand slows down as it will for 95% of the “new” enthusiasts.

I was interested on two models, but I canceled my orders and asked to be removed from the magic list.
My friend is selling his whole collection and breaking one or two…
Crazy, but who am I to judge? He is so pissed of… first world problems…

As according to the latest letter from Rolex, it is down to AD to decide who to sell. So now most ADs choose big whale, big spenders over loyal customers, it is not the Rolex's fault. Actually it is nobody's fault too, ADs have to generate profit too.

Sorry only my personal opinion, don't tell me off, haha,

Rolex is creating this armosphere that customers are treated like criminals. AD’s are frightend of loosing their business. So: Rolex created this situation.

Yep, Rolex can and will do whatever they want. They have zero interest for their clients.

I’ve fired some of my clients too. They’ve been needy, unappreciative, entitled, not enjoyable to work with.

Rolex doesn’t care how many watches he’s purchased.

There’s 40 more people waiting, they’ve lost literally nothing.

There’s more to the story.

Sounds like your friend's AD is doing the right thing. I greatly appreciate and respect Rolex for cracking down and laying out policy that:
1. Helps prevent or limit flipping behavior.
2. Creates an environment where there is more equitable distribution of limited stock to their clientele.

I'm sorry to say this, but a Rolex timepiece should be special. These should have a meaning to them, marking an occasion, celebrating a milestone, lasting a lifetime, and serving as a beautiful, exceptional heirloom piece. Not something you hoard and throw dozens of them into a box that you put in a bank/safe/bunker/panic-room.

Maybe it's time to start hoarding something else.

Or, maybe your friend can move to Omega. You can add 20 of those watches to your online cart and check-out from their website, no problem.

Yeah, boohoo… truly first world problems. But the point is that the poor customer experience is affecting the brand. Btw:
Rolex watches will never be special watches: one million mass produced watches every year. I think it sucks that someone is trying to control what a person can do with his/her hard earned money. If someone is that crazy to horde watches: so what? Who are we to judge?
