Sky-Dweller to replace DJ41?

So I wanted some feedback from the forum.

I have two DJ41 being the fluted motif blue dial and the Wimbledon dial. Exact same configuration which is fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet. These are among the other watches which include a Batman, Sub (no date), Speedmaster and a Cartier Santos Large.

About 8 months ago I put my name down for a white dial Sky-Dweller and my AD called me to tell it was here for collection.

I like to keep 6 pieces at any one time. At this stage I have the option to sell one of the DJ41 for the Sky-Dweller. I am leaning towards selling the Wimbledon dial but wanted some input about what others think.

Thanks for any feedback / suggestions. All opinions are welcome.

If the Sky isn’t to big for you and you like it more than the wimbledon my advice would be to do it. If it were me, I would absolutely do it because Sky is beautiful and you still have a DJ.

Good luck with your choice!

Sell the blue dial DJ. The Wimbledon dial is timeless, the blue dial is nothing more than trending.

The Sky Dweller is one of the most unique watches in the world, Rolex or not. No other watch I know of has a ring commend bezel and an annual calendar that is so functional.

If you have a wrist of 7" or larger than it is imo an essential piece in any collection. I love my SkyD white dial, it's chunky but timeless and wears fine on my 7.1" wrist (which is slowly but consistently getting bigger due to weight training).

The fluted blue DJ will pair very well with the white SkyD. That's the way I'd go in your shoes.

Blue is a far more horologically and sartorially timeless colour than green and matches with far more of the average male wardrobe.

Sounds like a plan. I’d keep the blue and ditch the Wimbledon. Plus, I’m not even sure I ever saw anyone post a picture of a blue motif DJ41 in that configuration. That’s a winning combination for sure.

Thanks for the input - looks like I need to sacrifice the DJ41 Wimbledon for the Sky-Dweller. It’s a bit if shame because it was probably the only classic model that seemed to have a sporty nickname.

Selling the Cartier is a big no no. The missus picked it so it’s an immovable object. Plus I really like how versatile it is with the straps and bracelet

You don't have to sacrifice anything, the 6 watch limit is something artificial that you are imposing on yourself. If you truly love the Wimbledon as a piece and do not have any related financial concerns then keep it too.

Here you go - I have it currently on the Oyster but I also have the jubilee for it to dress it up. My AD told me that he is hearing that these might be discontinued and Rolex dont make a lot of these dials anymore.

Apologies for the quality of the pic. I am not good at taking pics.

I generally love the DJ41 line - its my favourite.

The issue is that I used to be have 12 then 10 and 8 pieces. They simply didn't end up getting used / time on the wrist. With 6, all these get sufficient wrist time and is manageable for me

When I got my blue SkyD my two DJ became obsolete. They never got wrist time and are both gone. Didn’t keep either one. In your case keep the blue motif dial. I never li,ed the Wimbledon dial.

That’s where my mind goes as well …

OP, I’d hang on to both DJ’s for the time being and see if you still wear them after a while

To me that is such an ugly and old-fashioned dial, large roman numerals just don't make for good aesthetics.

Ditch both DateJust; Sky-Dweller will occupy your wrist 100% of time.

I'd do exactly what you said. Sell the Wimbledon dial and get the white SkyD. The blue dial DJ is one of the best looking configurations.

If you can swing the Sky-Dweller purchase without having to move anything initially then that is what I would do. Get it into the collection and see what wear is like after you get past the honeymoon phase with the Sky-Dweller. If not, get the values of the two Date Just watches and go from there.

That blocky blue dial just doesn’t look good. I thought it was the normal blue dial but that version of the blue dial is bad! No wonder Rolex doesn’t make many of them. No brainer, sell it and keep the Wimbledon.

.

+1. I love my white SS SD. I have both bracelets so it's even better.

Added a Blue SkyD not too long ago. While a little larger, it does wear very well. And the SkyD movement is super simple to use, for an annual calendar. The white dial is beautiful also.

I’d grab the SkyD if I was you, and drop one of your DJs. I would personally let go of the Wimbledon.

Wow, that would be an extra tough decision for me! The blue Fluted Motif dial is my favorite DJ dial and the Wimbledon is a (very close) second for me. Both DJ's have my favorite configuration as well with the fluted bezel on Jubilee. If one had an Oyster bracelet it would easily break the tie for me. Sorry, I don't think I can even choose here hypothetically. Coin toss?? Yes....it would be THAT close for me! Lol.

Probably the best advice really! Whichever DJ gets worn or preferred more out of the 2 stays.

I think personally the Wimbledon dial would go, but we are all different.

depending on your wrist size, the DJ41 is more suitable for daily wear

Okay I just picked up the Sky Dweller and it’s effing wow! Proper heavy hitter. The Wimbledon will need to be sacrificed if the wow factor continues for the next couple of weeks. And on the jubilee it is perfection

Sell the Wimbledon. If the blue wasn't the fluted dial I'd say either could go. But the fluted dials are special IMO. It's a keeper.
