Lets be honest JJ anything is a improvement on the standard
Rolex box.A nice pear wood box like panerai, would be more appropriate
considering the price we pay for our watches.Rolex is a luxury item so IMO deserves a appropriate luxury box.If a £200 watch can come in a nice lacquered proper wood box why cannot Rolex

Elaborate presentation is nice, but in the end, the watch is what we are all after.

Agree with that one, Mark.

Mmmmm. Ever seen some of the boxes a Panerai comes in, or a Jaeger? I know you don't wear the box of course but a luxury item deserves a luxury packaging. But if that shiny box only adds to the price, skip it! 2 years ago I bought a very nice Caran d'Ache ballpoint pen (the Ivanhoo) and that came in a box looking like a mini humidor. My wife snatched the pen and is using it now, darn I'm stuck with that bloody box

Take care,

Frans.

Ahhhh, the other good stuff: (fountain) pens.

I have to agree with Frans. While you are buying a watch, a luxury item should be packaged as such at no additional charge. Panerai outdo Rolex by a few country miles with their packaging. Imagine, a polished pearwood box with a lovely leather/suede interior with a place for the screwdriver that is provided and an additional strap, also provided.

However, if Rolex is your first 'luxury' watch, you'll be impressed. Once you learn a bit of other brands (VC, AP, JLC) you'll see how crappy the Rolex presentation is. Hell, even Invicta offer better packaging than Rolex does. And believe me, my Rolex boxes have been in a closet since the day after I bought mine, but just the same...

Also, Panerai provides the COSC certificate. Nice touch.

And that proves that Rolex marketing is akin to walking on water. All that (deserved) comments and remarks and we still come back for more. Amazing!
