Sold My Rolex Watches

I decided to take advantage of the upswing in the value of my Submariner LV here in the UK, so have just sold the following watches.

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Air-King 5500
Rolex Oyster Perpetual Explorer 1016
Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner 16610LV

I still kept a couple of watches but have just bought this from my AD. Happy with my decision as have had years of enjoyment from the sold watches.

Smart move. I wish I would have sold a couple of mine off a few months ago while the getting was good.

As long as you are happy, that is what matters.

The Tudor GMT is no slouch, it should bring many years of enjoyment

The LV will continue to go up. Should’ve kept that one.

Selling in March would have been more impressive. You are panic selling your whole collection after a drop in stocks and watches. Seems like a bad idea.

Great decision. Rolex is no longer a desirable watch at least for me

That's where I'm at. VC (and ALS) really took the shine off Rolex for me quickly. There's still a few specific models I appreciate but not many.

Yes you can - it was my first Rolex which I had had since 1978. If I could buy the new one (and did not need the £ to pay off the mortgage) I would.

Tudor GMT is my daily wearer and a superb watch, easy to wear always makes me smile:

But I’m not selling my Rolexes for anything. ;-)

The Explorer was hard to give up, but I had not worn it in 7 years so thought someone else should enjoy it. It was a gift from Rolex to my late father for his photographs in their adverts in National Geographic in the early 1960's. It has been through the Rolex Service Centre many times since 1965 and when I looked at it recently with it's service dial and bracelet, it no longer looked like my Dad's watch. He was not sentimental at all about material stuff and would be smiling now at the fact I had sold it. In fact he liked the fact that all of his five children had Rolex Watches, as if the proverbial ever hit the fan then we could always sell them and buy our way out of trouble.

Perhaps not panic per se - but a funny move nonetheless. Enthusiasts don't sell watches - flippers do. You will indeed regret this move at one point or another - if you like watches that is. If you're in it for the money - you won't. Time will show.

I had had one watch for 44 years, one for 20 years and the most recent 7 years. Think you might be talking out of your hat!
