Very interesting. HODINKEE did a write up about J.B. Champion, the former owner of the watch, a few months ago. Fascinating story.

What would having the watch engraved do to the value. I presume if it was a light engraving on the case back that could be easily removed it wouldn't do too much damage, but what do you guys think?

Very interesting and sad story about Champion. I knew nothing about this prior to this post. Thanks!

I think if 99.9% of people had it engraved it would be worth less. However for two top Hollywood stars (some would say icons I guess) it can only add value if anything as it's now got the original story behind the watch, plus their story.

Film star association like Paul Newman or Steve McQueen only make watches more desirable I think.

It's a bit different though, no? McQueen's and Newman's Rolex watches were worth the same as any before it was found on their wrists. This one is one of a kind, and had incredible provenance PRIOR to Brad Pitt receiving it. I don't think the engraving devalues it, but I also don't think it will appreciate in value due to his ownership. The watch is so incredibly valuable in its own right, Pitt doesn't matter. I can't believe she engraved it with their character names from an upcoming movie -- so disappointing for a watch like this to be marked with some random movie that, for all we know, could totally bomb.

So much for that -- it's for sale with Bob Maron. Jolie never bought it.

Agreed. This will only make this watch more valuable down the road.

Hey,
You're close, but the story is a bit more trickier than that 😉. Yes, for sale by Bob for around $4.5-$5 million.
