Greubel Forsey Balancier Convexe S2

Hey everyone - the idea of a daily sport greubel has me moving towards actually owning one.

The new Balancier really caught my eye. I have bigger wrists so the size isn’t a turn off for me. 46mm.

To fund this purchase, I may have to move a Journe (not one I bought directly from the brand) so I’m doing lots of thinking.

Any owners of this or other Greubel pieces care to comment on their personal experience? Is the idea of daily wear of this piece crazy and the output of too much wine last night?

Here are pics of the one I’m considering the most currently.

I wish I was an owner and could advise. IMO GF a next level watch. I would however recommend taking your time on this, big move.

I was considering either the Balencier S or the Balencier S2 earlier this year. You're not crazy considering it because it is an amazing piece from an aesthetics and quality perspective. I was considering the Balencier S2 with the grey dial because quite frankly I thought it was the best looking sports watch on the market today and would've been the ultimate daily.

However, I ended up trying on the 43mm Balencier S and found that too big for my 16cm wrist so the S2 was out of the question (for reference 42mm Journes are the largest my wrist can handle). Despite not having lugs, the rubber strap that's attached to the case flares out a bit so it still wears quite large. If considering the S2 I would definitely try one on before committing. Finishing is among the best I've seen and the case construction is amazing (better irl than in pics). Similar case complexity to RM cases but with proper top tier finishing and build quality. That said, I really wish they'd have gone to 40mm instead of 46mm with the S2, would've been perfect in a smaller case. Still, if your wrist can handle the S2 it's definitely worth a look.

If the Journe you're considering moving to get an S2 is either the Resonance or the Optimum I don't think that would be worth it. As nice as the S2 is, those 2 Journes are just more special and will be harder to replace down the line.

Great feedback here. I can pull off the Big Pilot with ease so feel the move to 46mm won’t deter me.

The finishing is what really set me on this move. It seems unmatched in photos.

That optimum and res are forever pieces for me. Never those :)

I have two GF pieces. Once is the balancier sport and I really like it. Extremely comfortable and fits well on my 6.5 inch wrist. I really want to get one of their GMT pieces... but it is a bit out of reach right now. I have a platinum 24 sec tourb.. Again a great piece. there watches are just unbeatable.. I sold my Journe as well. Of course wish I would have waited a bit

Not a GF owner. But there’s not a single FPJ I wouldn’t trade to get closer to this.

I would easily rock that as a daily. Not something you see on wrist every day

Not many Journe fans on the thread :)

I get the sentiment. But I love my museum pieces as well.

There’s many Journe watches I’d personally rather have hence the query. Sounds like it’s not one of your top Journe pieces in which case this would add something quite fun to your box.

I would take that watch over any Journe.

I have always loved journe watches, but the secondary pricing has gone way overboard. This watch is on a different level.

I think most complicated FPJs are far more interesting from a visual perspective than the GF. The GF is a great piece as well, and all a matter of personal taste so by definition you cannot go wrong. At that price point, however, I'd strongly consider a Ferdinand Berthoud, which are more compelling for me.

In any case, good choices to have. Keep us posted!

The other path is to add a 5270g or j to the collection.

I feel both make it there but prioritization has been hard.

I did just get my 4500v with black dial. Maybe that keeps the sports watch checked for a bit.

GF really nailed it with this new model. I like it so much!

Looks great on your wrist.

Looks like 72 hr PR, 100 WR for this watch.
I would love to wear that as a daily.

Regarding the journe….amazing watches more wearable for me especially the 38mm models.

The GF is every bit as interesting as the FPJ IMHO, if GF decides to make an S2 in 38-40mm my collection would be in jeopardy of dramatic overhaul.

The FPJs are much more wearable than the sport GFs. Thick watches that don't fit under a cuff are not for everyone. However, I did want to note that GF has a lot of customization options available. You can even have a tourbillon installed on non-tourbillon models. Dials, etc., can be customized. You name it.

So, if you're going to get a GF, I think a customized one is the obvious way to go.

Possibly. Still kicking the tires on it. May go up to the double Balancier sport.

I absolutely think you should get into a Greubel Forsey. It’s the right move for your collection and looks great on you.

Ditto, I was lucky enough to try one on and it wears so well. The fabric strap is next level comfortable and doesn’t flare like the rubber on the old model.
