Icon20 How do you wear your watch(s)?

In high anticipation for my new watch, which i am just awaiting to come in and is killing me, i was just wondering
when and when not will you were your watch?

Never having owned such an expensive piece before i feel like i need to be cautious wearing it. I am sure i will baby it for a bit. Obviously wearing it while running with the bulls in Pamplona would probably not be advised but i was just curious to the durability?

Thanks!

I wear mine pretty much all the time. I have a pretty active job that is mostly hands on. It gets a little scratched up, but like the the other guys said, that gives it character. I can't justify spending as much as I did on the watch and not wearing it as much as possible. Once you get past he shock of the first scratch, it's all downhill from there Good luck

Where (or (wear)) mine all the time.
In the summer, it's in the lake, spelunking, quadding, cutting fire wood etc.
That's another reason it's a Rolex and not some dainty thing

I agree with Craig. When I bought my ExpII, I thought I'd just wear it on special occasions or only to the office. But I liked wearing it so much, I wore it more and more to the point that I never take it off except to shower and sleep.

Now I wear it swimming, diving (shock, horror!), skiing, mowing the lawn, pouring chemicals in the pool... you name it. It's a tough Mofo that will likely outlive you. Give it hell and enjoy it.

I assume you are waiting on a Rolex, Tony. If so, there is almost nothing you can do that will scare it. A Rolex sport watch is one of the toughest animals in the jungle. Do not, I repeat, Do not, baby that baby. You're paying too much money to let it sit in a drawer waiting for that special occasion. Slap that mother on your wrist and wear it proudly 18/7. After the first little scratch, you will stop worrying about it.

Be careful with the new baby near corners of walls.
Trust me, you watch is tougher that drywall. I have taken out more than one wall with mine too.

When I first got my 16610 I couldn't take my eyes of it. I was careful but I’m always careful with all my gear. Then the thin scratches on the clasp start to appear and the first scratch on the polished side of the case. After about two months upon receiving it (and wearing it at work) I banged it against a solid steel door post ruining the bezel and chipping the crystal. When Anne saw the repair bill she went crazy (was as much as the amount most people would spend on a complete watch) and I never wore it to the office again. But that’s just an accident. The watch kept on running, nothing happened. Rolex’s are as tough a tank. But I don’t like the ‘heavily worn look’ myself

On my left wrist, unless I am showering. Otherwise, I always have it on.

If I am traveling to a suspect area, I wear my GMT-II. It's functional and the easiest to replace.

Normally, I only take my SD off when I go to sleep. That said, I suppose a bit of common sense needs to be exercised. If I'm working on my car or my desktop computer, I take it off - even though the Oyster case is built tough, there's no sense in sticking it into tight spaces with sharp protruding bits.

Apart from that, there's only been one occasion when I took my Rolex off my wrist. Sasha and I had just returned to Melbourne and were house-hunting, and we ended up viewing a house in the old Olympic Village, which since 1956 has turned into something resembling a war-zone. We arrived at the house ahead of the real estate agent, and taking a look around I figured that the locals would mug someone in broad daylight purely for sport. I put my DJ in my pocket, called the agent and cancelled the viewing, and got the hell outta there right quick.

Yes i am awaiting a DJ. Had to order it because they didn't have the one i wanted.

Before i came to this forum i always thought when i get my first Rolex i will just wear it on special occasions, but after reading the all posts the last few weeks i have to say i agree, no use an expensive paperweight that sits in draw.

Man, i find myself browsing the web and lurking around this board alot lately. Am i weird for being so damn excited about a watch??

I wear my DJ everyday to work and most weekends unless I'm doing full time with the kid, then I wear my cheap watch, but its because I'm a scardy cat to scratch it

Now if I recall correctly, JJ says he likes "swirling it around gently like a glass of wine", although I suspect the truth would be that he'd look like he'd just won a Grand Prix!

Wear your Rolex how you like to.It will stand the beating of everyday wear and tear.I only remove it when I doing something that would really damage it,like working on the car or fencing.(Not the sport with swords).

In actual fact I just spent money on my Seiko Diver (Fitting a sapphire crystal) so it could be as tough as my Rolex.

It really comes down to common sense.

around my kids!

Always take my Sub off when my kids are playing with magnets - there are a few construction toys on the market with really strong magnets and believe me, a 5 year old will stick a few on your watch just to see what happens!
Apart from that, 24/7 - and when you get used to wearing it, and forget about cleaning it with a toothbrush and soap once a week you won't even notice a few scratches!

Wear my 6 week old 16610 all the time except on the weekends when I am working on the pool or yard. Also - never in the shower (although if it is water-proof up to 1000 ft. I don't see how shower hurts but for the soap). I take it off at bedtime as well. Six weeks and despite a few solid bangs on walls it has zero scratches. I know the first one will send me into a rage....Just like a new car.

Fairly simple thinking really, you don't smash your arm into stuff on purpose, so you also don't smash your watch into stuff on purpose, but as the saying goes, shite happens.

Be warned though, SD do not take well to shower tiles, the tend to dent and I don't mean the tile. (Ask James (Gedaken) about that one.)

Daren, bring up the shower incident a few more times and I may have to switch my attention from JJ to you!
