Is a Daytona too flashy for court?
Starting a trial tomorrow and I was wondering if the steel Daytona will be too flashy. Despite what the WIS community may think about it, mine barely gets noticed. Then again, ........
Whaddya think? Am I overthinking this or would it be a poor reflection on my client if his lawyer showed up wearing an expensive watch? BTW, I have always worn either my steel Sub or white Ex II for trial, and it was never an issue. The Sub is too common for people to care, and nobody recognizes the Ex II as a Rolex. But the Daytona is a little more noticeable.

Hi David,
If you feel that "flashiness" of the Daytona will in any way effect the smooth progress of your case, then DON'T wear it. Just stick with the good old Sub and take things in your stride. You and only you can be the final judge on this one, David. Good luck with the case - JJ

David,
Depends on you client and the case IMO. I know you cannot tell the details, but from my experiences ( I'm an accountant) not many of my clients or peers know Sh$t about watches. Plus most of the time it will probably be under your shirt sleeve. I would wear it, just don't be playing with the buttons during the trial You are supposed to look like a successful lawyer. Daytona says that. Just don't be flashing it around Most people cannot even tell if you wearing an expensive suits etc. Only that it looks good. So wear it & kick some legal butt.

Hi David,
Excellent advice all around. From one Daytona wearer to another - go for it!

Wear it and flash it if any incriminating evidence is brought up. It could distract the jury.

I would wear A. The watch you were most comfortable with. B. The watch you have had the best courtroom luck with.

Wear the Daytona, Dave Hopefully the jury will know exactly what it is. When they see the $40.000 a year prosecutor wearing his Timex, they'll know you're making alot more money and, therefor must be a better lawyer. They're bound to sway your way.

Dave, I would go with the Daytona. If it were gold, I would probably say No. But an SS Daytona won't attract that much attention. It just shows you like chronos and there are plenty of those around.
And if you're going to use it to keep track of your time, then it has utility for you (although I have to tell you that when I'm in trial, if it goes a full day, that's 8 hours of billing, plus any substantial extra prep time).

The only time I'd steer away from the Daytona is if it were your trial. Attorney's are supposed to look successful, unless you're the prosecutor.
Good luck. |

Wear the Daytona and turn the alarm off so it doesn't beep.At least it won't draw attention to it
Aaron BTW. You can always tell them it is an Invicta. |

Wear it, maybe there are a few guys on the jury on wait lists that think you may be able to help them out.
I think if you are comfortable wearing it, then no worries. Good luck on the trial.

i don't think it would be too much... i know a couple of lawyer friends who invest in rolexes even if they don't know jack..as well as expensive cellphones, suits, laptops, etc... because it seems to be part of the package to show the client and the court that the lawyer must have been a good one to be able to afford such pricey stuff... just my 2 cents worth...

Having seen myself wearing the Daytona on The History Channel Titanic program last night, I am convinced nobody can tell the difference from more than six feet away. I wore it today, and I will for the rest of the week.
Thanks!

Just walk around saying "Denny Crane" and it won't matter what watch you are wearing.
