Inherited a watch from my best Friend (Dad)
My father unfortunately passed away last week. I feel a lot of guilt in inheriting this watch, but I know it meant a lot to him and I will wear it for special occasions proudly and smile every time I look at it and think of him.
I believe he purchased this 15-20 years ago, and I’d love to lean on the expertise of this forum to understand truly what this watch is, and any details that might be worth sharing. Any insight into the worth would be appreciated too, as I believe it is valuable and worth insuring. Thank you in advance. |

My condolences on the loss of your dad.
I’m sure you will treasure his watch and think of him every time you look at it. When you have enough history on TRF please post a pic of it and I’m sure there are members here who will be able to supply lots of info on your watch. |

Welcome.
If authentic, your watch would be much newer than 20 years. Your photo is really much too small with poor resolution to be able to say much else.

Tricky to tell from the image - looks like a 116718 (yellow gold) or a 116713 (rose gold / rolesor) - the ceramic bezel was introduced on the yellow gold GMT in 2005, and rolesor GMT in 2006.

Sorry about the loss of your Dad. Sentimental value of that watch is definitely priceless. I'm sure he is happy that you are enjoying it, and thinking of him while you wear it! Your Dad had great tastes. That's a full YG GMT Master II. Definitely a high end watch and was expensive when it was new. Values have definitely gone up a lot in today's market as well. Enjoy the heck out of that watch! Would be great if you can hand it down to your child or relative too someday.

116718 is the model number in the box. Full certificate and everything. I wouldn’t believe it be fake.

Condolences for your father. Looks like a really nice watch. I wear my fathers GMT Master as well. Wear in good health in his memory.

Is posting to a serial number on the internet a bad idea?

Oh, the reference/model number of your watch would be 116718LN. Market value is roughly $50-60K, so definitely get it insured!

So so so sorry for your loss. I can only imagine how that experience feels.
That watch is a great piece. It’s a 116718, looks like G serial number, dating it to sometime around 2009, more or less. It’s no longer made by Rolex, last msrp was $33,250. Current market seems to be between $30k-$40k depending on condition. My recommendation is to wear and enjoy it in his honor. And AD can size it properly for you. It’s a fun piece, here is mine: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I guess I’m off on value compared to some other posters in this thread.
However, I just went and put mine on to honor your late, great father. May his legacy live long through the memories of his loved ones Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Inherited a watch from my best Friend (Dad)
Op I’m sorry to hear about your father, (not sure if you are a father) but sometimes as father we go through stuff wearing watches.. so that watch has your dads dna on it, most likely he wore it some situation good or tuff.
Wear the watch let it pass through generations of your family. Mainly enjoy the watch, I’m sure your dad would have loved to have it sized for you and see you walk off with it on. I know I will one day. Welcome to the forum. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Welcome. Sorry to hear of your loss.
That’s a keeper. I hope you can wear it a lot and enjoy it with a smile. Don’t hold back. I see some scuffs that tell me your dad wore it and did not baby it. Looks like enjoyed it and it did not just sit in a safe. The card should be dated, hand written, to show you when it was purchased. Sometimes they leave them blank. In that case, here’s a link to a serial number by year estimate. No one knows precisely, but this gives general ideas of age by serial number, until Rolex began scrambling the serial numbers. As mentioned, a G serial would be about 2009 or later. https://www.bernardwatch.com/Rolex-Serial-Numbers I sold my 116718 and it is a great, discontinued yet modern watch with a proven movement that will run for decades with an occasional service.

Hi OP, so sorry for your loss.
Your father’s watch is a GMT Master II, solid yellow gold. The GMT has an extra hand that can be set independently of the time to indicate the time in another timezone. The rotating bezel can be used to add an extra time zone too. Sometimes the bezel is used to countdown time too. If the bracelet needs adjustment for your wrist take it to any Rolex boutique and they will assist removing or adding links. Don’t attempt this without the right screwdriver (special flat plane). The approx value would be between 45-55k USD for insurance purposes. Wear it in remembrance, your father had exquisite taste.

Sorry for the loss of your dad.
I checked and found 2 identical watches like yours on ebay, 1 with box and papers and 1 without. Your watch is a solid 45k-50k watch so for insurance I would think 55k-60k insured replacement value. |

As far as Rolex go, that’s one of the best and no longer in production.
I too have lost a parent very early in my life. I know that right now it’s too painful to really enjoy the watch, but eventually you will enjoy it. I’m sure it will become one of your most prized possessions. Once your ready to start wearing it, I would wear as much as possible, with a few caveats. - don’t wear it any wear that you think you will be robbed. That’s an extremely obvious gold Rolex. I own a YG Daytona. It’s my favorite watch, but I’m careful where I wear it. - don’t wear it to work unless your boss is running around with an even more expensive watch than that. You would be surprised how jealous and petty coworkers can be. |
