I have an idea...

since I am having doubts about whether I will ever use the Explorer 1 more than 2-3 times a year, I was thinking of getting away from the Rolex sports watches. After all, my Sub and Exp1 have the oyster bracelet, black dial, same hands, no date, and the same locking clasp. Maybe I can get something totally different than the Sub like this:

this datejust 16234 is a totally different watch. my Sub will still be my primary watch, but at least having a completely different watch in the wings is different than having a watch with similar features in the wings.

any thoughts?

would any of you trade the exp1 for this datejust?

Thanks.

I may be off base, I really don't know. But I would say that if the DJ smiles more at you then hell yeah make that trade. I personally know that if you don't connect with a watch, move it on. Best of luck, that DJ is a beauty but so is the EXP.

I would go with TT as well if you want there to be more variety. However I do feel that there is a big difference between the Exp1 and the Sub, but if it doesnt smile at you everytime you wear it then you should let it go.

Writer,

That is smart thinking. I would also agree go TT if you like it.

Great deals can be had on TT DJs in the pre-owned market, but BE CAREFUL.

For me, the exp did not come until after I already had a sub and DJ.

Now you've thrown a monkey wrench into this whole discussion, writer. Would I trade an EXP I for a Roman dial DJ? In a New York minute. But I am a sucker for
Romans. Let me offer for your consideration a TT Roman dial:

As Mark said, there are good deals to be had on TT DJs if you're careful. This one I picked up for 50 cents on the dollar.

And a TT DJ will be completely different from your Sub.

Thanks guys for your feedback. This may sound strange, but I only like TT on the sports models not on the Datejust. For me, a TT DJ looks too flashy. Also, a TT DJ would be pricier than the regular jubilee. If I do go ahead with this, I want an even trade or I want to spend no more than what I receive for the exp1. This is just a thought though. I seem to change my mind every day. My brother told me last night to just put the Sub away for a while and wear the exp1 and stop babying it.

Personally I'd keep the Sub and trade the Explorer for an Oyster DJ, smooth bezel, white dial and arabics all the way around. Shweet!

That's a beautiful DJ. If you are sure you like it more and would wear it more, then why not. You have good logic to your decision.

That's a gorgeous DJ, I've never seen that exact combo it's really nice.

I absolutely adore the Exp 1, but if you don't plan on wearing it, bye bye. You might find it hard to get that exact DJ in trade, but selling an essentially NIB Explorer shouldn't be hard, though you're going to lose $1k or more... sorry...
