Anyone have luck with Seiko Divers? SKX?

Looks like I MIGHT have to liquidate my Rolex 16610.

I would need an inexpensive replacement. Looking for something that at least looks similar to the sub.

I have seen mixed reviews on the Seiko skx models... also looking at other Seiko divers like the black monster on amazon. Can anyone point me in the right direction on this?

Can't go wrong with an SKX diver. Great value for the investment. I've owned and modded many. Everyone has been regulated by me and running very consistent.
A good place to purchase is from Creation Watches, great prices and fast delivery.

A lovely combination of classic, modern and custom Seikos, Dan!

Here are my (from left to right) vintage, custom mod, and homage mod Seiko divers. Lots of different ways to go with Seiko!

Go for the SKX023 Day Date Diver, black dial, and bezel. Affordable, attractive, sub-like, and bulletproof construction. Discontinued now too, so a good investment if you can find one.

Huge Seiko fan here. They're very robust watches for the price. I own a skx007 on jubilee which is quite comfy on the wrist.

Bear in mind there's no manual winding capability so if you don't wear it everyday the PR will drop and possibly die. If this happens you essentially have to jump-start the watch by lightly shaking it in order to propel the rotor, set the time, then let the natural motion of daily wear take care of the rest throughout the day. You'd need to wear it everyday to keep the mainspring wound. If you plan on that then I see no reason not to get one.

There are alternatives to the skx but the price, size and overall appearance may differ, but all provide a higher PR, hand winding, and better level of finish. Obviously, if you're selling your 16610 and opting for something inexpensive there's financial limitations, but if you can swing it here are your other options:

Seiko Sumo (substantially larger (I sold mine for this reason) but has hand wind capabilities)
Sbdx001 Marine Master 300M (Can be had for ~$1850 new and is arguably the best value in divers)

It might also be worthwhile to check Orient's line of divers.

Not trying to sway you but think there's a real possibility you'll be disappointed as the 16610 shoes are might hard to fill. Again, if you plan on wearing it everyday then I say go for it... you can also get these watches regulated to run within pretty good specs.

heres a pic of skx007j
As per previous post, no manual winding though the auto winding is very efficient. a few swings will get it going

I have a 173 and could probably build a substantial collection strictly out of modded Seikos and be happy...

Can't go wrong with either the Monster or SKX 007, my son has been wearing mine for years and I don't know how he does it but he beats the shite out of them and they take it, no problems, still keeping good time.

It came in and I am absolutely in love with it. It is bigger and a little heavier then my 16610. It wears so comfortably it is ridiculous. I read that it was difficult to size the bracelet, but I found it to be quite easy with a basic spring bar tool. You just have to watch the video on how the sleeve things work.

Now the problem.... I have only owned it for 4 hours and have already changed the band 4 times! I have a gray Nato and a Black nato.... and a Black Zulu. They all look SOOOO good on it!!!! I think the grey nato is my favorite currently.... but the stainless bracelet will obviously be the choice for dressier occasions.

I don't know if it is because of the larger head size fitting better on my wrist or what, but with the Nato this thing is flat out more comfortable then my 16610 with the same Nato.

And the LUMES... you won't truely understand how wonderful they are until you see this thing in person.
