Cleaning and polishing

A newbie to this forum, and generally to Rolex, I hope I am following the rules when I create this new thread. My new life with Rolex watches began March this year, now the proud owner of a mint DJ41-0012 and a 8/2022 Pepsi-0002

Yet I'd like some advice on initiating the process of cleaning and polishing a scratch magnet like the 126710BLRO-0002.
  • Should I engage with that kind of activities myself?
  • If advised yes, what would be best approach (looking at nanoclear products)?

Any support appreciated.

No do not polish your own watch. Wear it. Enjoy it. Don’t lay tile in it but wear it. Gonna scratch up. The marks of life.

If really dirty…soap & water. Just a rinse then dry with microfiber cloth for fingerprints, etc…
Leave the scratches alone until service time will be most folks advise here, and I’d agree.

The only cleaning any Rolex needs is washing in soap and water, rinse well after in running clean water, pat dry with any clean cotton type cloth. As for polishing again, the only sort of polishing is best left to normal routine RSC only, wear you new Rolex in good health.

Don't polish the beauties by yourself. No matter how many scratches they have or will get in the future, after a RSC Service they will look like brand new. Astonishing what RSC is able to do nowadays.

If it's really dirty, use soap and water. For just a little mess, rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Don't worry about scratches until it's time to service it

If you really must perhaps check out posts/ threads from ‘Mystro’ on how to clean up a watch yourself.

I used to do some touch up myself but now being more seasoned scratches don’t bother me one bit. Polishing only by the RSC when its time for service.

For cleaning the bracelet I use an ultrasonic every once in a while. Same as a watchmaker does. These things are cheap and it is amazing how much gunk comes out even after using it on a visually very clean bracelet.
Daily cleaning with dish soap and tooth brush works perfect as well.

There is a fantastic cleaner called WristClean that I only use. Highly recommend. They have a foam or spray. I like the foam just a bit better. Washes away without any residue. Been using it for years. Dry with a soft microfiber towel. Thank me later.

In approximately twenty-seven years I have only ever cleaned Rolexes with dish soap, running water and a clean soft cloth. Don’t overthink it, just wear and enjoy them.

Regular soap me result in soap buildup, soap scum. Some light Dawn dishwasher soap once or twice a week would be better.

Welcome to the forum.
Likewise but for over 50 years no need for any of todays Phoo Phoo sprays or special cloths especially with SS watches.

And how would any soap scum build up if rinsed well after in running water.

Clean it with soap and water, dry and polish betwen all the little Jubillee links with a microfire or similar soft cloth. Takes a while, a pet hate of Jubilee bracelets for me.

Related Q: best way to clean up a jubilee bracelet? Toothbrush and soapy water, or would even that mark up the polished links?

I would say never be tempted to try to polish something yourself. If the scratches irritate you then you could get your AD to polish it when it goes in for a service but TBH I’d just leave it as it is

You can also use ultrasonic cleaner to clean the bracelet. Just remove it from the watch head first. Never polish your watches.

I second the above on WristClean. Fantastic results. Never tried the foam but the spray goes on easy and I just rub it in with my fingers before rinsing. Easy

Doesn’t rubbing with microfiber add surface scratches?

The micro fiber will not. Dirt and grit embedded in it will.

Have to keeo this stuff in perspective. Yes, it's good to clean your watch from time to time (weekly for me) with soap and water. Being in constant contact with your skin it gets dirty. Aside from gross factor of wearing something really dirty and covered with dead skin and oil, that stuff attracts grit that can cause wear on bracelet links.

I've been wearing my sub daily for 5 years. Yeah, if I look closely I can see a million scratches on the polished surfaces and sleeve polish on the brushed surfaces. But from normal viewing distances (Like a foot away) it looks identical to when I got it.

Incredible what a baby brush, soap water and a litte effort can do to the look of your watches...
