is plexi really that easy to get scratched?

My replacement plexi on my 1603 gets scratched quite easily, yesterday it was regulated by my watchmaker and after just a few times of it being laid on his table i already noticed some very shallow hairline scratches. does this happen also to original plexis? is it harder than replacement? can i buff it off without creating more swirl marks? thanks

Normal. However, very easy to polish w/ Brasso, Polywatch, or even smooth toothpaste. The rich luster and lack of fingerprints make plex well worth a little maintenance.

I don't really notice scratches too much on my plexi crystals and I wear my 5513 ALL THE TIME. I'm also not terribly fussy about making sure the plexis are perfect either. My advice?? Don't sweat the minor cosmetic scratches and only polish the crystal occasionally. I've had my 5513 for about 4 years and I think I've only polished the crystal twice. I'd rather suffer through a few light scratches than have to endure fingerprints.

It's funny to read few members here using toothpaste as a crystal polish.. I have done this in the past with few different brands, only to get a foggy result.

Polywatch gives me a crystal clear finished product with scratches gone. A little tube will last a long long time.

The key to using toothpaste is to dilut it with water so it is not too coarse. Think of it as different grit sandpaper. I polished my crystal on the watch I recently purchased with toothpaste starting out with straight toothpaste to get the deep scratches out. Then added a drop of water here and a drop of water there. Pics below show what the start looked like and now the finished product.

I pop my bezel off frst.

25 years ago I used it on CDs.

The sheer amount of uses to remove scratches from various objects always makes these threads worth it. Plus, the Plexi always has that look you just don't get with sapphire. Next million dollar idea is to invent a good Plexi for our iPhones so they quit shattering. Buffing out scratches is much preferred to a cracked screen.
